Sort of OT: negotiating a diaper service with building mgmt?

My CD dreams may be slipping away before I even have a chance to take the tags off the adorable covers I bought! Halp!

When we found out we were having twins we decided to abandon plans to wash our own CDs at home (in some sort of portable machine) - and decided we would go with a service. The cost is actually basically the same vs. doing laundry in the laundry room in our building every day or two anyway...

BUT -- our building is super strict with access. We had to put our dog walker on our lease as a "resident" in order to get an entrance Fob for her and that was like pulling teeth. We have also been told that security will not receive deliveries for people and because of fire hazards - absolutely nothing can be left in the halls...

Soooooo.... How do we make this work with a CD service? They would prefer we either give them a fob and leave the dipes outside our apartment each week for exchange, OR that we arrange to have them for exchange at the security/concierge desk... Both ideal options seem unlikely so far...

How would you go about negotiating this one? Any idea of who to talk to about this, or creative ideas to get around the challenges? Has anyone else had great luck with apartment or condo management to get around this one?

We want to get our ducks in a row before making a super formal request (we have been making informal inquiries until now) - but aren't sure how to best approach it...

  • Can you drop off and pick up at the laundry service?

  • Your building management might be more open to solutions if this is a "medical" thing like an "allergy" to disposables. *wink, wink*

  • I couldn't quite follow why the portable washing machine was out?

  • Also, if you figured the diaper service price was equivalent to the portable washer. You've forgotten:

    1. You can resell the portable washer.
    2. You can reaell the cloth diapers.
    3. As @AFwifelife‌ pointed out, you can use the portable washer for more things than for cloth diapers.

My vote is the portable washer because its really no big deal washing your own diapers. And then you don't have to haul babies down to the laundry room to get stuff done.

  • Another vote for a portable washer. For all the reasons previously stated. There are a few people here who use them, I'm sure you could get some good advice on what features to look for.
