Cloth Diapering

Dumb question about washing machines......

I just used a top loader for the first time. (My mom gave it to me so it is old) I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how on earth it can possibly clean as good as a front loader in so little time. My full cycle on the front loader is 53 minutes where as the longest cycle on the top loader is only 20. How does it clean so fast? I haven't done a load of diapers in it yet, I just did a load of rugs and towels to make sure any softener or detergent is gone, but now I am wondering how it would clean?!

  • My he top loader takes two hours to wash diapers.

  • I might be wrong on this, but I would think having an agitator in the TL (I'm assuming?) would help clean clothes faster than a FL without an agitator.

Does it have any option for a longer cycle (like heavy vs regular)? You want the longest agitation cycle possible but every machine is different. Can you take a picture of the panel?
It has a cycle for whites, colors,  and delicates. It is super simple. I did a load of diapers and after the agitation cycle I reset it to agitate again and it worked so so well! I do wish I could just pick a longer wash cycle and just let it do it on its own, but it by far beats my front loader! In the front loader I usually have to run 3 or 4 extra wash cycles with no soap and add water through the dispenser every cycle to get them clean. It takes 4 or so hours to wash! In the top loader it took 30 minutes and they came out smelling cleaner than they ever have in the front loader! It uses a ton of water which I think made a huge difference.  I still don't get how they get so clean when it does not really beat them around like the front loader......

The tablet is not letting me post a pic :(  I was going to say: It looks so dirty, but we actually cleaned it up really well. It is a stackable washer/dryer combo
