Trouble TTC

Clomid vs IUI w/ meds

So we finally have a plan, DH's repeat SA was better than the last one but there is still an issue with motility and morphology. I was driving when the nurse called with the results so I don't have numbers but I do recall her saying his total count was 19 million which is up from last SA. So the nurse gave me a choice she stated the RE said I can start clomid to help with weak ovulation or we can just go straight to IUI with meds. My only reservation with going straight to IUI is my DH really really has an issue providing a sample. I'm thinking maybe I should try the clomid with TI for a couple of cycles. The nurse said I can let them know on Monday of my preference. And I also guess I know that if my IUIs fail we are closer to end of our journey. Because of financial constraints IVF is not an option. Any thoughts?

Re: Clomid vs IUI w/ meds

  • I'd do the IUI too. We don't have MFI at all and it was still worth the extra $350 OOP to do the IUI to me. If you're just starting treatment, you're still pretty far from the end of your path (even if you don't do IVF) because as long as you are responding to meds, you could reasonably do 3-4 IUIs with oral meds and that many more (or maybe more) with injects. Hopefully you won't get that far at all, but I wouldn't think of skipping TI (especially with some MFI) as giving yourself fewer chances total.
