Reduced work schedule

OB has informed me that I need to go part time (35weeks).
So if I am working half of what I was before, does this mean that when I go out for FMLA when babies come I will only be compensated for STD at my new part time rate?

Re: Reduced work schedule

  • I'm not sure. I went out at 33 weeks and as a teacher my sick days were used until the boys were born. Once the boys were born my FMLA kicked in (sick days still get used). I hope you find the answer to your questions. If I had to venture a guess, I would think no because you reduced your workload due to doctor's orders. That is only a guess though. Good luck!

  • It depends on your state, I'm fairly sure. My experience w STD is that it is 60% of your weekly income but is capped at a certain rate. So PT v FT may be moot due to the cap. You'd have to look at your state's rules. Or if you have private STD, those rules. They're all different.

I'm sure it depends on your company/state.  I worked reduced hours for 2 weeks before going out on maternity leave at 36 weeks.  It did not affect how my STD was processed or dip into my 12 week maternity leave.
