Similac alimentium

So my baby has reflux ,doctor suggest we switch to the alimentium vs the sensitive.. OMG worst 24 hours of my life. Poor kids been screaming and refusing eating taking like 2ozs if that was a struggle to feed. Finally I was at my witts end and switched back to the sensitive in the middle of a feeding and now we have the happiest boy ever!! Anyone else have bad luck with the similac alimentium??

Re: Similac alimentium

  • Our little guy has been on it since he was born. I supplement with pumped breast milk.Other than being gassy, which I think has more to do with his cleft palate, it has worked fine for him. But holy shit it's expensive.

  • My LO was on that since she was about 5 days (3 weeks now). It smelled awful and it was a fight to get her to drink it vs the breast milk. Once that ran out we switched her to the Enfamil Gentlease. It smells better and she seems to like it better. It's only been 24 hours and so far we haven't noticed any difference.
  • Are you using the ready to feed or the powder form? My nephew would absolutely not drink the ready to feed Alimentum, but did take the powder. And I have heard of some babies being the opposite.

  • My 5 year old was on it and as gross as it smelled he loved it the whole time he was on it he was like a brand new baby, but he was also soy and lactos intolerant so I'm sure just the relief itself from those and the reflux made it better lol but my husband and I always say it smelled like liquid cheez itz. YUCK!
  • It did not work for my 2 yr old. She was constipated and had eczema so we tried. She had slight reflux that got way worse. I think it was too thin. She was so uncomfortable we only made it a few days. We ended back on Similac Sensitive. With this LO the same pedi recommended it for his reflux (moderate) and constipation and I just said flat-out no. She recommended the purple Similac, which is kind of an in-between. We tried for 3 days and he was more fussy and the reflux was a little worse so we went back to Sensitive. Maybe that's a good option for you though?
