Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after Mirena removal

Hi there! I just had my Mirena IUD removed after having it in place for 2 years. During my Mirena use, I DID have a period monthly and had a regular cycle.

My iud was removed on Thursday and my hubby and I ML that night and again today. According to my normal cycle, I should be ovulating this weekend. I'm spotting now. Is this due to a combination of the removal and sex (possibly irritating my cervix), or could this be implantation bleeding? Sorry, but I don't remember how quickly I spotted after implantation with my son. Has anyone experienced this or anything like it?

TIA!

Implantation bleeding doesn't happen for everybody. How do you know if you're ovulating? Do you chart? The only way to know for sure is to chart. I suggest you read the newbie blog at the top of TTGP and be prepared so a little bit of snark and some good answers. GL! Edited because I'm silly. I meant to write Implantation BLEEDING.

  • Also how do you know you should be ovulating this weekend? That skill should be considered a super power.

  • No I suppose not. I'm not sure what I meant by that. Is there bleeding during ovulation after mirena?

  • I do chart AND I'm using ovulation predictor tests.

I have used an app on my phone for almost three years that has been incredibly accurate at helping me predict my cycle. I have had my period every month, despite being on mirena IUD. Plus, I'm using ovulation predictor tests.

No, I wish they were. My dogs looked just like that when they were puppies. The picture reminded me of them, I wish I had a good picture of them as puppies like that.

I'd get nothing accomplished if I had that much cuteness running around my house. We got our dog when he was 2, but that's how I imagine him looking when he was a puppy.

  • I do chart AND I'm using ovulation predictor tests.

I don't know if your definition of charting is the same as ours.

Are you charting your basal body temperatures?

You can have spotting during ovulation. Considering you had your Mirena out recently, the spotting being related to post removal of your IUD is more likely.

I do chart AND I'm using ovulation predictor tests.

No I don't chart my BBT. I've tracked my cycle (on paper and in an app) over the the course of my mirena use and a few months before. It has been very steady and I've had my period like clockwork during that time, WITH Mirena implanted. As I've said, I have used the predictor kits over the last three months (plus this month) and I've ovulated within a two day window each month during that time. This month, I *should* ovulate between today and Monday.

Scratch the implantation bleeding idea. I'm not sure what I was thinking. I'm more curious about the possibility of spotting during ovulation.

  • So, it's not implantation bleeding for sure, since you haven't ovulated.  It's very common to spot after a Mirena removal.  I would chalk it up to that.

I'm a little surprised that you chart you temperature and still don't have a basic understanding of when implantation occurs in the menstrual cycle.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood what you meant by "charting." I don't chart my BBT. I chart (or keep track of) my cycle and have done so throughout my iud use. That's why I anticipate ovulation over the next couple of days. I've used ovulation predictor kits and it's typically within the same couple of days each cycle.

  • Spotting around ovulation does happen for some, happened for me for the first time ever this cycle. If you don't temp, you don't know for sure when you ovulate. You can get positive OPKs and not ovulate. Only temping (and ultrasounds) confirms ovulation. Seriously, read the newbie blog.

    -------quote box fail------------
From my understanding Mirena does not prevent ovulation. It is a hormonal IUD which thickens cervical mucus, thins uterine lining and can suppress ovulation.

A few weeks ago I was reading some clinical data that showed Mirena can have a contraceptive effect up to 3 months post removal. Coming off of any hormonal birth control can be an adjustment on your body. Some women have no problems and have regular cycles shortly after coming off birth control. With other women it takes some time for their body to adjust. There is no way for the app on your phone to know how your body is going to react to your IUD removal.

The app on your phone can not see inside your uterus. It is basically a calendar. The best way to know when you ovulate now that you are trying to conceive is by charting your BBT.

Ovulation predictor tests only show when you have an LH surge. They do not guarantee that you will or have ovulated. You can have an LH surge and not ovulate. How do you know you ovulated within the two day window the last three cycles if you are not temping?

Thank you for the un-snarky, non-holier-than-thou info. (No sarcasm here. I'm genuinely appreciative.)
I didn't realize that tracking one's BBT was that important vs using OPK's. I'm going to look into that independently now.
I'm not sure what to base it on now. My cycle began on time and lasted 7 days, and now I'm spotting again (after mirena removal) and it is seeming more and more like good ol' AF as the day progresses. None of it makes sense. I may just have to wait and start charting my BBT over the next couple of months before we truly start TTC.

Thanks for the info again. Some of the members on this forum are a bit snippy. I think I may take my leave now before I show my snippy side as well ;).

I wasn't looking for an argument and I wasn't referring to you. I'm just shocked by the responses to an honest question, even if it was a bit misinformed. When someone asks a question, it really shouldn't be met with annoyance and then told to leave the forum.

I do appreciate you taking the time to reply though. I really wasn't referring to you.

  • Are you kidding me? Who told you to leave? You come here asking us if you're having IB before you've even freaking ovulated (even if you aren't that up to date on TTC info you HAVE to know how ridiculous that question is) and then get shitty because... I don't know why. Everyone was really helpful and informative since clearly you have no clue what's going on.

But go ahead and get snippy, lady. I'm quite sure we can handle whatever you've got. ;)
