WWYD: Belly Burn?

I burned my belly this morning. It doesn't much hurt.. But I'm debating on whether I should go to the ER and let them check it out. I cleaned it and put some ointment on it and a sterile dressing.. So I'm thinking it might be okay?

Ouch what did you do? You shouldn't put any ointment on it for awhile because it holds the heat in. I think you'll probably be fine, but if I was you I would get it checked out just in case. Maybe they can dress it for you or something to make it more comfortable.

  • Wow! So sorry to see this. I agree with pp to avoid ointment. If you're worried, I would call the doctor. Otherwise, if the pain had stopped, you're probably okay. Keep your dressing clean.

Personally I would at least call the doctor, but really I would probably go to an urgent care. That looks pretty serious!

  • I would get it checked out, just in case... I hope it doesn't get worse! I'm sorry, that looks painful! Feel better!

  • Definitely get it checked!

    CSC arrived 5/7/12

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • I say it doesn't hurt to get checked out. It looks like a nasty burn, and if it doesn't hurt it could be a worse burn than you think it is.

Did it have a blister? From the picture it looks like it might have and was popped? Either way, keep it clean!!
  • Oh my lady, how did you do that.  I would say go get it checked out to avoid infection.

Thanks for the input everyone. I burned it on the skillet cooking breakfast this morning.. And had a delayed reaction.. Which probably made it worse than what it would've been. I'm at the ER now.. Apparently it's a partial thickness 2nd degree burn. Needless to say.. I'm not cooking anymore til Baby Espree is out of here. I'm too clumsy w/ the belly.
@LoHerrim We're 36+3.. 3cm and 100% effaced as of yesterday so doc said could be any day now. I'm happy we made it this far. :)

So glad you went in! Any kind if inflammatory injury in that region would make me nervous and seek professional assessment. Happy you were well cared for @CreEspree !
  • Hoping that burn heals quickly!! Your niece is adorable :)

I'm glad you're ok! The last thing you need is more pain in that area. Lay low til that baby's here! Ps I love your niece!!!
  • Thanks you all! Hopefully it heals up before this kid decides to make an entrance.
  • Oh goodness, so sorry babe! I burned my belly on the coil burner of our stove 9 yrs ago when I was KU with DD#1 while cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It still makes me cringe to think about it! Glad you aren't in pain, but it's def good you got it checked out. Hope it has a few days to heal before Dday :)
