Swaddle v. Sleep Sack

We swaddle DD for naps and at bedtime with her arms out of the swaddle. Is there a difference between using the swaddle blanket versus just putting her in a sleep sack? Also, now that summer is fast approaching I'm wondering if I use the sleep sack if I need to put another layer of clothing on underneath the sleep sack. What do you all do?

We've used sleep sacks since he started rolling, so his hands are free. I put him in pajamas, then put the sleep sack over it.

A regular sleep sack is loose, so it won't necessarily have the swaddle feel for baby. There are sleep sacks that have a swaddle built in with Velcro, some with an arms out option.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

I have two girls.  Neither liked being swaddled. The youngest (3.5 months) sleeps in a sleep sack.  Our house stays pretty cool, so I always have her in pajamas under her sleep sack.

We stopped swaddling at 6 weeks. We moved to sleep sacks and gowns. During winter we put DD in a onesie under the fleece sleepsack. Now she has 2 cotton sleepsacks, ones without arms that we put long sleeve t shirts under or a gown with socks. DD sleeps through the night.

I use sleep sacks with a onesie underneath. Long sleeved if its 71 or less in his room, short sleeved for above that. I used the sleep sacks with the swaddle option to transition him to his crib because wrapping the swaddle around his torso (arms out) helped give him that comforted, wrapped feeling. IDK if it really helped the transition that much but he's now only wearing the sleep sacks with onesie. I'll probably continue to use them for a bit longer and then we'll just do cotton sleepers.

I use the sleep sack, about the same rules as roo1oo.

Now that it's gotten warm I've started leaving the sleep sack off for his naps to see how he does with just his outfit. So far his doing fine

Hi everyone! After reading this thread I went to checkout the sleepsack swaddles. I suggest that anyone looking to buy one read the reviews online carefully. I always take a look at what the people who gave an item a 1 or a 5 say. Seems that a few people had close calls with their babies using the sleep sack. I don't know if the design has since been changed but apparently it was possible for their babies to shimmy the part that goes around the arms up and it blocked the baby's face.  Just wanted to mention it so you can be informed if you have it or are looking to buy it... I'd suggest reading the reviews carefully.
