Pregnant after a Loss

Random thought on people guessing the gender

I had a store clerk ask me yesterday when I was due, blah blah blah. Then she said, "It's a girl??"

Not "is it a boy or a girl?" -- just "It's a girl?" (I was buying hand towels and hand soap, so no baby clues in my purchases. The towels were even blue, so...)

We're keeping the sex a secret (except for here), and I am not even telling random strangers like this store clerk because I don't want to let it slip to non-randoms.

I am amazed at how many people are assuming it's a girl, though. Is it because women secretly hope all babies are girls? Is it because
I am a girl, and it just looks like I would be having a girl?

I am not really annoyed or anything. I just find it sort of funny.

Re: Random thought on people guessing the gender

  • I have had plenty of people tell me what they thought this baby was...just from looking at me. People are weird.

  • I had one woman ask me "Well, what do you want? Are you hoping for one or the other?"

When I told her we already knew, but weren't telling, she still expected an answer. Um, we want THIS baby, of course!

I am just now 14 weeks and it kills me how EVERYONE has an opinion on the sex. All I get since "coming out" is everyone telling me whether they think it's a girl or boy. They have a "feeling" or it's based on the latest "heartrate" or that's simply what they want it to be. It's kinda funny to me :) as for me and DH, after everything, we honestly don't care. Just glad we have a heartbeat !!
Yes, this! When I told my best friend the news she said she KNOWS I'm having a girl based on the heart rate and the fact that DH and I BD'd about 4 days prior to my O. Apparently those are ironclad prerequisites. When I told another friend, she guessed girl right away, and says she has an intuition about these things and has never been wrong yet in guessing the sex of someone's baby (we'll see this time I suppose). My mom and grandma even refer to my LO in the feminine; my mom says they both caught themselves referring to the baby as "she".

The only ones who haven't convinced themselves that we're having a girl is my DH & my dad (both want a boy, go figure!). Oh, and I do have another good friend who thinks I'm having a boy simply to have a different opinion than the rest of my friends. And because my top girl name choices are also her top choices, so pretty sure she just doesn't want me to have a girl, lol. :-?

    :-D Love the ulterior motives!
