Pregnant after IF

Subchorionic hematoma

Good morning ladies, my dr's office has an online system where you can log in and check your appt, lab results etc.

I logged in this morning to read the report of my first ultrasound from the RE done on 5/1.
Everything was good except for the last line "A 1.2 x 0.5 x 1.3cm subchorionic hematoma is identified."  They didn't say anything during my US.

Of course I turned to Dr. Google and now i'm a nervous wreck.   I checked my ultrasound pics again and really couldn't see it, unless it's the thing on the left side of the gestational sac? I've had no bleeding or spotting so far.  I will call the RE office in a bit to ease my mind.

If any of you ladies have had one or had heard about one, could you share with me your experience?  it will be much appreciated, thank you.

Re: Subchorionic hematoma

  • I have/had one.  Not sure if they go away and not sure of my measurements, I just know it is small.  I've had two bleeding scares caused by the SCH.  My SCH is a result of multiple implantation sites (3) and only one viable baby. So, the other two sacs are pulling from the wall, causing the SCH.  My RE and OB don't seem to be concerned and said I could bleed again and it should be OK as long as the bleeding doesn't occur with severe cramping.

Not sure if that helped, but that is my situation.  I'm surprised they didn't mention it to you at all.

I had an sch, and RE wasn't too concerned and just told me it would either be reabsorbed or to expect some bleeding and to call them if I was filling a pad within the hour. ..thankfully it got reabsorbed. GL!

  • I had one that was discovered on my 6 week ultrasound.  I was worried sick about it after googling.  I tried to take it easy as much as I could - I kept my feet propped up when I could, I didn't carry anything heavier than a gallon of milk, I relaxed/slept as much as I could.  I also prayed every morning and night that my body would absorb the SCH.  I had my 8 week ultrasound on Monday and it was gone.

Just take it easy, don't overdo things and don't push yourself.  Try to relax as much as you can.

That seems pretty small. I had 3 at my 6 week appointment. I was on 2 weeks of bed rest. They absorbed by week 14. You may or may not have bleeding depending on where they are located. I was a nervous wreck but try not to stress. After all that, I'm holding my sweet little boy in my arms. Don't read google!!

Thank you ladies for your feedback.  I spoke to my nurse at the RE's office and she said mine is small according to the measurements (she could see my US report but couldn't see actual pictures of the US).  It's not uncommon and it may reabsorb.   I go for my 1st OB appointment next Wed and I'll for sure make them give me an US to check for the SCH.

  • A lot of us have had SCHs and though it's scary, it's totally normal and you'll be fine :) Mine was right above the cervix, so when the babies changed positions it put pressure on the area and caused it to bleed. After that, it reabsorbed and I've had no issues since.

  • I had one at 5w, didn't know I had it because we hadn't had an u/s at that point, and I started cramping and bleeding at work, of course.  I thought I was miscarrying since it was so early.  It came and went really quickly, and baby was totally fine.  The majority of the time they're nothing and they resolve on their own.  If your RE didn't mention it to you, it's probably nothing to worry about as they thought very little of it, as well.  It's very rare that they affect the baby.  They're also very common with IVF, so try not to think too much of it.
