We are going to Newport Beach at the end of this month and have never been. Can you recommend any nice places to stay? Or things to do in the area?

  • Or even Laguna beach if you're familiar with it

  • Hi! Ooo, how fun!! How nice of a place? Both of those cities have really nice hotels, but they can be very pricey. There are several Hyatts and Marriots along the beach. The Montage in Laguna Beach is really, really nice. Both places have great beaches. Balboa Island is nice and has a Fun Zone for kids. Fashion Island is good for shopping and eating. Laguna Beach has great shopping too, lots of little niche stores and lots of artsy stuff too.

Let me know more specifics and I might be able to help more! :)

  • Well we don't mind splurging a little but the weekend we will be there is out of our favor. We'll be there Memorial Day weekend. Probably in the $200-$300/night range.
We'll probably be swimming at the pool and hanging out on the beach.
Which beach is nicer for a 3 year old to play?
Maybe a little bit of strolling/shopping but not much.

  • Laguna is a little trickier to access the beach, so Newport seems more popular for families. If you feel like trekking down some stairs, Laguna will give you much prettier beaches. Both are pretty typical California - water is a bit chilly and sometimes waves and undertow are strong. But yeah, Memorial Day will be very, very busy so get to the beach early!

I would say any hotel near the beaches with a pool will be good. When we have family in town in Newport, they always rent houses so I don't have any personal hotel experience there.

    Have a blast!!!
