Bottles

I know they recommend waiting til your baby is 4 weeks old to introduce a bottle but there have been times I have just needed a break so we have given our son a bottle. We originally tried the medela nipples that came with the kit but he drinks so fast he ends up almost projectile vomiting it all up. We then tried the tommy tippee bottles and he spit up with that as well. They are the slow flow ones. Is this normal or is there a better bottle we should be using?

Re: Bottles

  • Dr Brown's are supposed to be good. I personally use breast flow by the first years. Just make sure you are sitting baby up, holding the bottle at a 90 degree angle and burp every half ounce or so.

Dr browns with premie nipples. Still using these with my twins and they are 5 weeks ( and were born at 37 weeks) they work great. I had issues with them throwing up after the medela too.
  • Dr Browns is the best! Also, I introduced bottles at one week with all 3 and none had nipple confusion.
  • I introduced a bottle on day too, and dd didn't get nipple confusion. We use playtex nursers, slow flow

We introduced a bottle at around 2-3 weeks.   Our Medela bottles came with slow flow nipples, and it takes him forever to drink from them.  If she's drinking too fast, then maybe read up on paced feeding.  You want to try to mimic her pace of how she feeds on the breast as much as possible, which means frequent short breaks.  Also, because bottles introduce more air, you want to stop to burp every half ounce or so.  You can read up on paced bottle feeding on kellymom.

  • We're using the Playtex nurser drop ins, and my husband said he thought they worked a lot better than others we tried.

We have the same problem with Tommy tippee. The slow flow nipples were definitely not slow! Dr. Brown's works so much better for us.

We use The First Years Breast Flow bottles with slow flow nipples- specifically because I had planned to still be breast feeding.

They work great! Also, sit LO straight up, tilt the bottle only horizontal, and make those bottles take as long as you can. We've had zero issues.

We use these too! They work great

Comotomo bottles for us with the 0-3 nipples. She's 3.5w and she took to them like a champ. Flow is still too fast, I think, but it doesn't seem to bother her unless she's full and hasn't realized yet.
