From the 2012 data:

Una: 33 girls

Premiere: 5 boys

Segundo: 5 boys

Trey/Tre/Tres: 751/78/7 boys

Sixto: 14 boys

Seven: 49 girls, 79 boys

Decimus: 8 boys

Million: 5 boys

Amillion: 8 boys

Trillion: 8 boys

Infinity: 16 girls

Infiniti: 6 girls

Angle: 5 girls

Ray: 5 girls, 321 boys

Matrix: 6 boys

Trig/Trigg: 60 boys

Alpha: 38 boys

Omega: 8 girls, 7 boys

Delta: 16 girls

Kepler: 19 boys

Newton: 15 boys

Tesla: 100 girls, 5 boys

Archimedes: 5 boys

Pascal: 27 boys

Una/Oona was my #1 pick for a girl (DH vetoed). Looking through a glossary of math terms, I would say that Axiom and Vector have name potential.

ETA:

also Octavia (79 girls) and Octavio (158 boys)

Re: Inspiration: Math

  • I attribute Seven to Seinfeld's George. I'm surprised there's more boy Sevens than girls, cause it sounds like a girl to me. Brother can be Axiom for a math themed sibset ;)

100 teslas, really? That surprises me. Mainly because I didn't think people would be drawn to that as a name but since they are, it seems more masculine to me. Maybe because nicola tesla was a man.

My husband wants this baby's middle name to be Sagan. And, before that, he wanted Tesla. I'm not thrilled, which is why we'll probably go with two middle names (my choice first, so I can pretend the second one doesn't exist!).

My daughter is a huge bubble guppies fan and her name is Oona! I love it. I had no idea it was a math name!

It's a bit of a stretch. The Una spelling can be traced back to The Faerie Queene and signifies the concept of unity. The Oona spelling is more closely related to the Irish name and just happens to sound a bit like a number name.

I'm totally jealous. I really love Oona, but could not convince DH. I tried pretty hard, too.

I also bet most of the Angles were meant to be Angels.

This was my initial thought as well. Thanks @plunderb, I love that your doing these lists!
