Third-Party Reproduction

Maybe an intro?

Hello everyone!  I've been stalking you all for awhile now (sounds so creepy), but really I enjoy reading your stories and I've learned SO much about the process of TPR. To introduce myself I am happily married with 2 wonderful girls (5 & 2).  For awhile (about a year), I've been considering being a GC. I just can't get it out of my head. I am completely retired from having my own little ones but the thought of giving someone the gift of life is so amazing! My husband however has not been on board, until last night!  We had a very good discussion about his concerns with it. After we talked, I learned he was really just nervous about how I would deal with it emotionally. So last night we decided I would submit my information to an agency and go from there.  I can't lie when I say I am pretty darn excited!  But I worry: What if they don't pick me? What if I am not a good candidate? So here I wait, for my someone to contact me from the agency.  So I hope you don't mind if I wait with you guys.  And I wanted to introduce myself so you know who is lurking about :)

Aww, I love how excited you are. And you are giving one of the most amazing gifts there is! So on behalf of your future IPs, THANK YOU for that gift and for your selflessness. I'll keep everything crossed that the process is smooth for you and your IPs, can have all of these dreams made true.

    WELCOME!

    *******Pregnancy and Loss Mentioned*********

Welcome! You are offering a wonderful gift! We are IP for a LO due in November.
One of the screenings you will have to do is a psychological screening. It will discuss emotional issues like the ones you mentioned and is very helpful!

I will mention that our GC (gestational carrier) is a co-worker of mh. She offered after our first loss and we revisited the issue a year later after our third loss. We worked through the medical, legal, and psych independent of an agency, so there can be many paths to being a GC.

This board is a great resource!!!

  • Welcome and good luck.  There are plenty of agencies and plenty of IP's, so don't worry if someone doesn't like you, you can't please everyone.  I've been turned down by agencies because I won't agree to terminate or reduce for ANY reason other than my life being in IMMEDIATE danger.  IP's have turned me down for similar reasons and I've turned IP's down for various reasons.  Try not to stress, it's a LONG, SLOW process.  Everyone says the slogan for surrogacy is "Hurry up and wait", I think they're right other than the "hurry up" part.  Are you on any surrogacy boards?  I would highly suggest you read as many surrogacy forums as possible, it's a very in-depth topic and you want to make sure you have a general idea of what's going on when it comes to matching and even choosing an agency.

  • Thank you ladies for the welcome!  From what I've seen you are all such a supportive group and I hope to add some of that for you.  A little more background (my name is Natasha), I don't actually have any bad medical history, I have had two c-sections but first one was due to previa and the 2nd one was my choice since I had one previously.  Otherwise I've been in great health.  So hoping that works in my favor.  I did check make the box "not willing to reduce" so it sounds like (as PP said) that may not work in my favor.  I'm still waiting for a consultation with the agency I chose, I keep checking my phone :)
  • :) That's so wonderful and selfless of you. I'm wishing you lots of luck! And welcome!!
