Blended Families

ages difference between children?

My step DD is 6.5yo..we would like to have one more. Obviously there is a huge gap in age but my next sibling is 6.5years older than me and my hubby's youngest sibling is 12 years younger than him. What is the age difference for your children?

Ours are 3.5 yrs apart. DS is 4.5yrs old now, and I'd like to have another child in a couple more years if DH would say yes.

Me and my full brother are 8.5 yrs apart. And my half sister and I are 21 yrs apart.

    Edited for clarity and typos.

  • We are ttc. If we are successful soon my dd will be 9 years older than the baby.
My older bro is 3.5 years older and I'm 12 years older than my younger bro.
  • Wow...ok it's not so bad to have that big of an age difference. Glad our family isn't alone with the age difference.

    Mkherren...Herren is my maiden name.
  • My stepson is 13 years older than my son. We plan to have another baby, and I suspect SS will be 17 when we do.
  • Mine are 20 months. I'm not looking to have more kids but maybe one day. This is hard!
  • My SS is 6 years older than my DD. DD is 10 months older than SS #2. DD is 5 years older than DS.

  • Thank you all for your responses. It makes me feel better about wanting to have another child. She is very excited about us having a baby someday so I'm not worried about her in that matter.
  • I had my first daughter while in high school and she is now 16. Her dad and i did not stay together and i married my husband 4 years ago and I am 19 weeks now with my second daughter. We are all very excited. My 16 year old is looking forward to finally having a sibling.
  • I wouldn't worry about an age gap. There is 9 years between myself and my brother. My daughter is 20 years younger than her youngest sister.

  • For me, my step-son is 15, my son is 11 and our daughter, the youngest, turned 5 in March ... so there's about six years between each kid and I like it that way. They're all in different stages at different times. We were trying to have another one, which also would have been another 6 year difference, but unfortunately lost that one. We'll see if we try again ... but again, the age difference is nice and there was only ever one in diapers/daycare at a time!

  • My SD is 26, my SS is 18 (though the maturity level of an 11 year old) and my DD is 5.

Even though SS lives with us, she is effectively an only child and we parent her (i.e. provide her with tons of socialization) like she is one.

I don't think it's all that big of a gap, and I also think big age differences are kind of the name of the game when it comes to blended families.

My mom was a single mom when she met my dad, my older sibs were in kinder and 3rd grade or so. I was born when they were 8 & 10. My two younger sibs were born when I was 8 and 14... So the age difference between the oldest and youngest is *gulp* 24 years. Our mom was a teen when she had my sister and had a surprise pregnancy with little sister at 39.

I was married very very young and started having kids at 19. We divorced when I was 24/25 and I remarried at 33.

That said... 16yo DD, 11yo DS, 10yo DD, 11 month old DD (2nd marriage) and I'm 8.5 weeks pregnant. I get a lot of stupid comments and questions and people ask all sorts of shit that is NOT their business, but it has more to do with the size of our family vs age difference.

The one thing you should be prepared for is "oh you have help!"

    No, LOL, I don't...

We have a range! Step daughter is 23, my dd is 14, my ds is 11 and we are expecting our first together (16 weeks). Everyone is estatic!
  • I have two kids from a previous marriage (16 and 13). We just found out my wife is due March 20th. Both the kids know and are both looking forward to having a new brother or sister.
  • I replied in the beginning, but I thought I'd update.

I am 25. I have a 4.5yo son and 8yo SD. My brother is 16. We have a 3yo half-sister. And now my mom is pregnant with twins! So some very large age gaps. And my kids are older than their aunt and future aunt(s) and/or uncle(s).
  • I have a step son who is 14, daughter 11, and son 4 1/2, one on the way. :)
  • My SD is 6 years older than my son (6 months). She is a wonderful big sister. Shes at the perfect age for being able to help out with things like: opening doors, carrying diaper bag, holding the baby for a few minutes, giving a bottle, and entertaining him. He adores her!
