Tri-Vi-Sol side effects?

I started giving trivisol to my 5 week old yesterday and Ive noticed that now he has trouble falling asleep and he gets fussy in the afternoon. Has anyone else seen this? Is there any other supplement I could use?

Additional info:pediatritian recommended I start giving a vitamin supplement to my 5 week old ( who is a bit below average on weight for his age) and she recommended Trivisol (combo of vitamin A C and D). It 's a non prescription multivitamin for babies made by Enfamil. I was a bit hesitant to give extra stuff to my baby (it has artificial coloring and flavor...like most vitamins do) but gave it a try yesterday since I found mixed reviews online and the negative ones were mostly about flavor, they stain clothing and the fact they have artifical coloring.

Re: Tri-Vi-Sol side effects?

  • We didn't use the Tri-Vi-Sol, our ped recommended vitamin D drops starting at our 2w appointment. At our 9mo appointment she recommended switching to Poly-Vi-Sol with iron. They all smell pretty bad, but DD didn't start refusing them until she was almost 2 and then we switched to gummy vitamins.

Thanks! I've heard about the Vitamin D drops - will give that a try
  • My baby has reflux and the vitamin drops make her vomit, so we stopped using them.
  • Being a bit below average on weight may be your baby's normal, that's the way charts work some will be on the high end and some on the low.  Besides not sure what a vitamin would do to help weight gain?  I'm assuming your breastfeeding based on your post, most likely the only thing your baby needs is Vitamin D.  I've always given my babies/kids Carlson's Baby D drops.  It's just one drop on my nipple or on a spoon once a day.
