Success after IF

3 mature follies with IUI

Hi ladies,   I am grateful for any and all answers to my question.   If any have done TI on injectibles and 3 mature follies on day of trigger what were the successful outcomes?   This is my dilemna.....RE said the risk of multiples is 20% and she repeated it 2x.....
I know that IUI is not a guarantee of pregnancy and just wanted to ask if any had 3 and only had a singleton.   I can't quite feel comfortable with possibly 3 eggs fertilizing and having triplets!!!!!!

Any experiences would be so very much appreciated....she also said that they cancel cycles when there are 4 or more follies......That was only 1 more than I had, so I chickened out and now I am questioning my decision.......

Re: 3 mature follies with IUI

  • You have to do what you feel comfortable with. I triggered with 7 follicles between 18-24mm, with back to back IUI's, and only had one baby. We were also comfortable with selective reduction, if it became necessary.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • FWIW, I would have done the same thing for the same reason. Three mature follies = possible triplets or more if one splits. I hope you get your BFP very, very soon!

  • I had 3 possibly 4 and had one baby but triplets are a definite possibility. We were okay with the possibility of twins or triplets.

  • DS2 is the result of injectibles + TI with an 18mm and a 18.5mm follie. With DD I had an 18mm and a 19mm follie, but I did an IUI that time. I would have been concerned about the possibility of triplets with 3 mature follies and probably would have cancelled.

  • My clinic won't do an IUI with more than 2 mature follicles, they are auper conservative. I am pg with twins and I do have a third empty sac that didn't develop. It looks like one of my fraternal twins had an ID twin so it does happen.

You have to do whatever you are comfortable with. We also did 7 IUIs and this one was the successful one, also what's your diagnosis? We are dealing with low sperm count.
    Diagnosed MFI- low sperm count

During our treatment cycles, MH and I talked about how many follicles we'd be comfortable with, and decided that we wouldn't go ahead if we had more than 2 mature. However, this decision very well could have changed if we'd been trying for a long time or had a diagnosis that made IUI less likely to be successful.

Thanks so much for the replies.    I have a luteal phase defect of 8 days and had 2 chemicals back to back......But the idea of triplets being a possibility makes me shake  LOL    This next cycle I am going to ask my RE to reduce the meds by half and hopefully will make a difference.
  • With pregnancy #1 we had three follicles and 24 million sperm post wash and had a singleton.

With pregnancy #2 we had three follicles and 116 million sperm post wash and have a singleton again.
