Cloth Diapering

Poop!

So DS just started solids, and his poop today was flippin huge! And I think we have hit the "peanut butter" stage. I am happy to report that the flat and cover contained it all! If he would have been in disposables I'm pretty sure he would have ended up in the bath and lots of laundry would follow.

So I do have a diaper sprayer but I think that it would have caused more mess than needed. I ended up just rinsing it out in the tub. What did you ladies do during this phase? It's kinda awkward to spray out a flat. Is it worth it to use liners until this phase passes? I honestly don't think a liner would have helped much with this poop! Lol

Re: Poop!

  • I liked liners during the peanut butter poo phase for exactly this reason. We were mostly using prefolds, either angel wing or bikini twist with a snappi. Instead of having multiple surfaces to scrape off, the liner took care of most of it. It didn't always get everything, but it did make poo removal a lot easier.

For us this phase lasted about a month, and gradually DS started to poop less and I felt like I was throwing away too many liners that were just peed on, to justify continuing to use them. (Liners are actually pretty durable and some people just wash the peed on liners and reuse them a few times)

  • I like to dunk and swish in the toilet, then I flush the toilet while holding onto the diaper.  That is always a good way for the rest of the poop to be pulled off the diaper

I really like the spatula for the peanut butter poo stage (though I use prefolds, but I'd imagine it's a very similar situation to flats?).  It took me a couple times to get an efficient way of doing it, but I think it works really well for us!

  • I made a DIY SprayPal that works great.  Spraying flats in general sucks though unless you are doing a pad fold.

This is why I trifold our prefolds.
