Working Moms

Intro

Hi everyone,
I'm glad I found this board-- I've been lurking for a bit but wanted to intro myself.

I work FT, 3 days in the office and 2 days from home-- DS1 is 16 mos today, and DS2 is due at the end of July. DS1 is in a daycare center FT, and for the most part it's worked out well.

I've been struggling lately with the questions from others about what we're going to do when DS2 is born ("you are still going to keep working? you are going to send both babies to daycare?" etc.)  Right now the plan is to send DS1 to daycare 2 days/week while I'm on mat. leave (hoping this will be a good balance, and easier on our budget than cost of FT) and then both back FT when I go back to work FT, likely early October. With DS1 I took the full 16 weeks under FMLA, but I don't think we can afford for me to take all that unpaid time this time. We'll see.

Anyway, I am happy to join this group. Maybe I'm extra sensitive/hormonal, but I've been getting easily irritated/offended lately re: the stay-at-home-mom/working-mom debate (most recently, the hashtag "#babyfirst from a SAHM FB friend really upset me. Do I not get to say I put my bab(ies) first bc I work outside the home? ugh)

Thanks for listening to my intro/vent. Looking forward to being an active member of this board.

    Welcome!
I would quickly defriend anyone who perpetuates the mommy wars from my feed. Save the drama for your llama ;P  Noone ever dared asked me if I'm returning to work - after spending years to get a PhD and a job I love, you betcha I'm going to return but frankly I wouldn't even justify myself - my family = my choice. And my kids are thriving with nanny/daycare! So feel free to vent/rant here - we all get it.
p.s. And I'm one of those who had a pretty short maternity leave and it's not that bad so if that's what's best for your family don't worry - it's always tough to go back to work, whether it's 6 weeks or 16 weeks but you'll get through it!
