Sleep / wake time change help

LO is 16mnths. Hubs has been a sah, but it looks like a job interview he had might pan out, which means lo will have to go to my mother's during the week.  Right now her her last feeding is between 8:30pm - 9:00pm and she's in bed after, but this also means she sleeps later into the morning and wakes between 8-8:30am.

My question is, has anyone had to change their lo's time schedule so that they wake early in the morning and go to bed early after they've already established a later sleep schedule and how did you do it?

I hope this makes sense......

I don't have success but I kind of have a related anecdote.

We let DS sleep in until 9ish on weekends because we are tired too yo.  Come Monday morning, I wake him at 7 and he is a super grouch.  He tends to stay up later on Monday night, but by Tuesday he is just his regular grouch self at 7 and goes to bed on time.

I also tend to do change more like ripping off a band aid rather than gradually prolonging it.

I've always heard to do it over several days or a week. Put their bedtime earlier by 15 minutes for a couple days, then another 15 minutes.

This hasn't really worked well for my kid, but I've heard it works for others.

  • I, also, wouldn't change anything at first until you see how she reacts to it. Maybe she will nap longer during the day to make up for the lost sleep, or you will notice that she's ready for an earlier bedtime. Let her help you figure it out.
