3rd Trimester

can't breath!

hi ladies

I know that it's common to feel that your lungs are crowded when your in your 3rd T, but is it normal that already at 30 weeks I have to breath through my mouth and consciously pull air into my lungs to be able to breath, yawning in the procedure about 3 times ever 5 minutes, or else I feel like I'm suffocating? my OB dismissed it as a regular pregnancy symptom but all I think of is this can't be normal because if it's already this bad then what would happen as my baby get even heavier and bigger! I'm almost 31 weeks now and I've gained a little under 20 pounds, I had a perfect BMI pre-pregnancy and at my 30 weeks exam my baby weighed 3.3 lbs

I went to see an ENT because I was feeling faint and thought it might be an ear infection and my BP was low (96 over 55 at the time) my ear was fine, he saw my reports from 3 weeks ago and so did my OB and they said I'm slightly anemic and that that does make it hard to breath and swallow and I'm now on iron tabs.

I can't sit down or lay back because I feel like I'm suffocating, to top it off I woke up today with a runny nose (I already only breath through 1 nostril) and an itchy throat and I seriously have to consciously pull air into my lungs through my mouth to breath. If I had fever I would have thought I have bronchitis because that's exactly how I feel, like I have to inflate my lungs and it isn't happening automatically.

did this happen to you? does it go away or only get worse

the "I'm going to faint and fall and hit the ground hard any minute" sensation is gone ever since I started the iron tabs. Was a horrible feeling that lasted for a few days.

as to the breathing, I'm trying to take deep slow breaths but I feel like I'm going to suffocate and instead I take faster shorter breaths...gaah...I think it is panic and the uncomfortable feeling that's making me unable to ease into slow long breaths.

when did your baby start descending?

You should probably talk to your ob about it vs ent. It's typical to have swelling or something of the sort in your nasal cavities. It's also very typical to have pressure in your upper chest cavity that can make sitting really uncomfortable. But if you feel like you're not getting enough oxygen you should be telling your ob this so that they can check you out since your baby's wellbeing can also be affected.
All of this, especially if you are hyperventilating when it happens. That just increases the CO2 in your body, which makes things worse. Try to breathe deeply and slowly when you feel that anxiety kick in, to help get things back under control.

For me, sometimes propping myself straight up helps and lying on my left side when I can. But it hasn't been that bad. I hope you can get some answers from your doctor and something that helps!

thank you ladies...things are better now I think I was panicking + had gas.. :\"> (very embarrassed)

but gas pains are horrible while pregnant! I never thought they could be this bad, I mean the pressure in my abdomen was unbearable there is a specific point in my stomach above my belly button to the right where I feel as if my baby's hand or something is there and with the gas and gas pain I honestly felt like my stomach was going to burst right at that point.

and I realised then once the gas subsided that it was gas!!!!!

I'm 32 weeks tomorrow, and this has definitely been getting worse for me. This morning, I blacked out SITTING DOWN at my desk at work! Luckily, my coworker walked in and saw me slumped on the floor against my chair and got my water bottle for me and then sat by me while I laid on my left side on the floor until I could sit up again. I already have no waist (my hips and ribs touch), so baby has no room. What am I supposed to do as the baby gets bigger?! Definitely bringing it up at my dr appt on Thursday.

omg @karlijw !!!! glad your alright. is it just the breathing? or maybe your blood pressure dropped?

my BP has been very low all over this pregnancy that recently I feel faint a lot, it got better when they started me on iron tabs but I still feel like I'm going to blackout a few times a week.

  • Im carrying really high so I have been having trouble breathing for the last month or so. I have not slept for more than 2 hours straight because its hard to breath. I guess its just something I have to deal with.

I was carrying low until I got to about 30 weeks, now my stomach is high and so hard that even if I slightly hunch over or lean to the side it hurts right under my ribs...it takes me so long to fall asleep but once am down am like a brick until the next morning, it doesn't wake me up but the quality of sleep I get is bad :(

  • Lurker here!  Tell me about it.  I've been struggling to breath for months now.  I had difficulty with my last pregnancy too, but not as bad as it has been this time.  I am bigger this time, so that probably doesn't help.  To top it off, I have been congested for quite nearly my whole pregnancy.  Last week the SOB (shortness of breath) was really bad and was waking me from my sleep.  I mentioned it to my OB, never thinking it was anything more than being 9 months pregnant and huge with iron deficiency anemia and she sent me to the ER for a work-up.  What a nightmare, but thankfully everything was okay and they chalked it up to the annoying SOB caused by pregnancy that would resolve in a few short weeks.

it isn't gas anymore, starting a couple of days ago now I have to sleep while sitting up and if I happen to lay down during my sleep I wake up cause I can't breath :( my lungs are so crowded I can't breath or eat, can't wait until she descends and I hope it happens and it happens soon
