Bone sticking out?!? --update--

Okay.. Hard to explain.. But it feels like there's a bone sticking out of baby girl's shoulder. The other side doesn't have it. When I rub my finger over it, there's an indention from her neck to the bump, then the bone-like bump, then indention, then shoulder. I have an appointment tomorrow but does this warrant an appointment? The next one wouldn't be for 2 weeks. She's moving her shoulder and arm fine but has been having crazy freak out cries at times when I hold her neck with one hand and butt with the other. Any one have experience with this?? Is it just her growing or hormone related? I have no idea but I'm so sad thinking I could have done it being rough while feeding or burping by holding her neck! :( TIA!

**Update-- my poor baby girl has a fracture of her mid clavicle! :( I cannot believe it! It has already started to calcify (that's what is sticking up from her shoulder) so my doctor thinks it happened during delivery (2 weeks 3 days ago). They usually see this with vaginal births so it's crazy to think she has it when I had a c-section. I labored for 12 hours after my water broke and she was trying to come out before the c-section was deemed necessary but I just can't believe it!! It could take up to a year to heal but it doesn't seem like she's in pain so fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!! Thanks everyone for your insight and thoughts!!

  • One more since this shows it the best! This is so random so I'm sure there's not a ton of similar stories out there but any suggests/advice is appreciated!!

  • It looks like when my brother dislocated his collar bone to me.. Not positive id call the dr
  • I have not seen that before, not that I've seen it all, I totally haven't. I probably would make an appointment for it too, though there very well may be nothing at all to it. The problem is it's the kind of thing you can't explain to a doctor over the phone, and that is why I would keep the appointment.

I agree with Chichi... I'd get it looked out soon.
  • I have a friend whose son broke his collarbone during birth. Definitely make sure you get it checked out. Could be nothing, but much better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and keep us updated!!
  • Thanks everyone! Definitely keeping the appointment! Will update tomorrow! Prayers for nothing serious!!!

Echoing what PP said: check with the doctor as soon as you can. When my younger sister was born, she had a broken collarbone from delivery, so that (or just dislocation) is a possibility.

  • Don't doubt your intuition. Better to go and be told it's nothing than hold off in the name of not wanting to act paranoid when there truly might be a problem. If baby is screaming in pain, an appt needs to be #1 priority.

Poor little one... I really hope it's nothing serious.
  • Thinking of you guys
  • Looks like the clavicle. I have that bump from a shoulder dislocation that didn't heal. It's looks like the ligament that attaches to the clavicle is stretched/ dislocated (top of the shoulder joint). I'm not a doc tho so def get it checked out!
  • Wow! That's incredible, poor baby. I'm glad it's not an emergency problem, though.
