Long time lurker/ occasional poster here to vent..
An hour or so ago I was coming home with my 3 kids from a playdate. My 2 daughters, 5 1/2 & 7 were on their scooters (with helmets). I was walking behind them with my 2 year old in a stroller. We got close to our house, on a very quiet side street. My girls scootered off ahead of me about 4-5 house lengths ( they've had these scooters for nearly 2 years; they know to stay on the side of the rode and watch for the occasional car).
At this point, my 5 1/2 hit a pepple and fell off her scooter. I saw her fall. I was watching them both the whole time. She didn't hit her head or even fall very hard. But, she is very dramatic. You would have thought she had a compound fracture. I picked up the pace with my son. A man walking his dog towards me, heard the commotion behind him and turned to look what was going on. Then he saw me walking quickly to get to the girls. "Are THEY YOUR girls????" he asks me. "Yes" I said. "She fell, you know" (with the emphasis on "you know") "Yes, I saw. It seems she got a little overconfident." He just stuttered at me and I kept on walking. I really felt like he was shocked that I would ALLOW my kid to fall and scrape her knee. (that's all it amounted to). Annoying, right? Or am I a slacker-mom?
