Eddie Bauer stuff

Anyone have any feedback on Eddie Bauer car seats, strollers, PnP's, etc? We've always been a fan of their products and company, so I wondered if anyone had some first hand experience.

Re: Eddie Bauer stuff

  • Eddie Bauer sold their name to Dorel Juvenile group and they slap the Eddie Bauer name on their stuff.  It is not actually made by Eddie Bauer.

Dorel sells low end car seats, strollers etc.  The car seats and strollers are cheaply made.  Can't say anything about the PnP, but they look flimsier than a Graco or Chicco pack n play.

The brand of car seat you get doesn't matter (unless you need something slim or that will fit particularly well with another particular seat). All car seats have to meet the same US safety standards. There are no ratings for safety that are published to the public. That being said, not all seats are created equal, meaning not all infant seats will actually fit a small newborn (Baby Trend and Graco Snugride 22, for example. The lowest slots are most often too high for newborns and when rear facing the straps need to be at or below the shoulders).

Chicco Keyfit 30 are slimmest front to back. Graco Snugride 30 are lighter then Chicco. I would DEFINITELY suggest getting one with front adjust.

Overall, the best seat is the one that fits your child, is installed correctly, and is being used correctly.

As for other gear with the Eddie Bauer name stuck on it, I'd suggest going on Amazon and reading user reviews.

  • It depends on what it is. Like PP said the travel systems are crap. What I find interesting is the travel system car seats are very, very different than the ones sold individually. Also steer clear of their 3 in 1 (same thing as the Safety 1st Alpha Omega)...garbage. Run far far away.

Anyways...their stuff is supposed to be exclusive to Target stores now, I'd be leery of buying Eddie Bauer products from other sellers. The new Surefit is the same thing as the Safety 1st onBoard Air and is a great choice for preemies and goes to 32 inches, so longer lasting than other infant seats. Most of the moms here that have that seat love it and there is info on carseatblog.com with reviews of the Safety 1st. It is also skinnier (but longer) than a lot of other infant seats so good for side by side. It's actually well made and the handle is nicer than Graco...IMO. A warning though the good extra base will run you $80ish.

The XRS 65 is the same thing as the Guide 65 and is a nice second (spare)car convertible. It's not as nice as what I'd get for everyday though but is great for airline travel.

I kinda suspect from the fabric that the new Target line has similar fabric to Maxi Cosi. So there are improvements over the old line. The travel system has what I call a hallow handle (some Graco's have this as well-looks like the plastic isn't molded all the way around) and plastic wheels so not good. I truly believe whatever you get, you get what you pay for. Expect to spend at least $100 for a decent handle and base with lock offs. If you did the seat I'd get the Clic It Snap N Go (I think it's nicer than the Graco SnG), a Quinny, or City Mini stroller.

  • I never said the car seats were unsafe.  I said they were cheaply made- cheaper plastic, fabrics etc.  Spend a little more and get better quality and ease of use.

  • I put all Eddie Bauer on my registry for the same reasons. They actually do detail/custom work for Ford. I just received the convertible car seat and I think the quality of it is strong and durable. I hope we were right!
  • I had an Eddie Bauer travel system originally and I hated it. It was very cheaply made when it came to the fabric, head rest, etc.

I traded it in at Babies R Us and got a Britax system instead and I love it.

  • From what I remember, the Eddie Bauer brand is not rated well by Baby Bargains. Just more info.

OP, do you have the Baby Bargains book? It's a good read.

Did you read my comment that EB doesn't actually make the baby gear?  Dorel Juvenile group bought the name.
