ANNOYED

This cycle has been crazy for us. First started out natural, even with PCOS my SO ovulated on her own last month so RE wanted us to go for it again. Come CD15 no positive OPK went for bloodwork and ultrasound to only show 13mm follie. RE wanted stair stepping with Clomid so CD21 we went for ultrasound which showed 6-7 follie that could measure but two 15-16mm. I figured give it a few more days and then we would go for iui. Nope RE stated that the LH level looked like it was starting to spike and scheduled our iui for this morning followed by bloodwork. First concern was follie size and second major concern was the reason behind the bloodwork aftet iui. The answer I got was it looks like we were on the upside of the spike and they were 99% sure it was the surge but they wanted documented bloodwork. Ok no problem trusted the RE and went with his advice dispute my concern. My wife just got a call stating the LH level dropped?!?!?! So this could mean she didn't ovulate like the RE had though and felt so sure about. She was told it could potentially mean she ovulated between yesterday ultrasound and today and that's the reason for the drop but the most likely reason is she just hasn't ovulated yet becuase her estrogen level went up.

I know this is a lot of chance I get that but there had to be larger than a 1% doubt in his mind to want the bloodwork her iui should have never taken place this morning. We should have done more monitoring and wait for an official surge OR cancel the cycle.

I could just be over reacting any thoughts am I just over emotional and angry its most likely a failed cycle? Or do I have a right to be pissed. We told the RE for us and cost I a cancelled cycle isn't the worst news its a cycle that is over 4 hours after and iui. Just really bummed and angry.

Sorry for rant also mobile bumping hope it came out okay.

Re: ANNOYED

  • Man! That blows. I would be upset and frustrated too. Sounds like you're not having a lot of faith in this RE. Any chance of finding a new one? If not have a convo with him about WHY you feel frustrated. That you don't want to do IUI if he's just guessing in dark. I have PCOS and so if things don't work with Sarah we will go straight to IVF with me. Is that an option for you? Hind sight being 20/20 I wish we had just done IVF from start. You're welcome to message me anytime you need to vent.

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
  • Thanks @Aandstilltrying there are so many things I would change if I could have only of known. I know for sure I am reaching out to the RE I wasn't available to talk to them and only Ashley could. I am the more assertive and ask a lot of questions she isn't like that. I want to do a sit down with the RE before next cycle. I know the plan is Clomid cd3-cd7 monitoring and trigger. I am happy with the plan but I need him to understand what we need from him or I will look for a new doctor.

I have IVF in my insurance and would have moved forward with that but I don't want to use my eggs. Ashley would need two my cycles of iui before her benefits would open. At the same time we have been saving to cover any added costs becuase if we need the IVF route we most likely will be doing partner IVF ashleys eggs and my body.

This whole process is just so overwhelming and once I think things are looking up another curve ball is thrown our way.

Thanks for allowing me to send you messages to vent I too am here if ever needed :-)

  • I think you have every right to be annoyed! We spend so much of our time and money trying to make this happen and we have to put so much trust into the professionals we hire to help us. They don't give us enough information to make our own decisions so we have to rely on them to do it. When they have us waste money and a cycle on sperm that isn't put in at the right time, it is ridiculous. And it shakes all of our faith in them to get it right the next time. This happened to us our very first cycle and @manada had never regained full faith in our RE or the clinic. I mostly have but it has taken a long time.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

I totally get your frustration.  My RE completely disregarged 3 YEARS of charting data and proceeded to test my progesterone levels on the wrong day.  I pointed out his mistake the day that they did my IUI, but he refused to prescribe prometrium (which, by the way, has no negative effect even if taken by a person with normal levels, ie NO reason to not prescribe prophylacticly) until he could get a new level at 7 days post ovluation.  Asshat.  $800 up the hooo-ha and out the window.

Yes, do your best to advocate for yourself.  Be clear about your needs (because they really are different; ever patient/client is different).  And most of all, be kind to yourself.  I'm so sorry this happened.

Yup.  What H. said above is true.     I learned to communicate in a way that felt better to me with our RE and clinic, but I never fully regained faith in them - I was constantly double-checking everything they did and doing my own research.   I'm still doing that now with our prenatal care for our twins, I don't know if I will every regain faith in the medical industry in some ways because I'm pretty jaded.   Luckily our MW understands and has been fairly receptive (so far) to my suggestions, questions, and requests for info/referrals.

Good luck.   We actually considered switching RE's but after a consult with one that seemed to be just as bad we decided the devil we already knew would be a bit less painful....  it's a hard call though and you totally have the right to be annoyed.

  • Thank you for your responses. Ashley re did a round of bloodwork day after IUI and it looks like her estrogen levels went down. So they "Feel" she ovulated. I hate that term feel or we believe. She will re do bloodwork next week to confirm ovulation. Next cycle the plan is already in place for clomid and trigger (what I wanted from the start)

I wish they didnt treat us like we were brand new at this I went thorugh multiple cycles so I semi know what to expect and what sounds strange.

Ashley wants to give out RE on more chance, with a new cycle thats medicated before we start the hunt for a new one but man oh man I want to scream sometimes. I knew this was going to be hard trying to make a baby but never in a million years did I think it would be this hard.
