Interview Questions?

I posted a few days ago about how I have an interview coming up tomorrow. I am thinking about possible questions that I will be asked and possible good questions to ask during the interview. I usually do well with being asked questions, but I am struggling with good questions to ask the interviewers. Besides the usual things like "what qualities are you looking for in an ideal candidate" does any one have any good suggestions? I know that there are a few ladies in HR on this board- any good questions that you have heard during interviews lately? This first interview is in a group setting (5 of us) so I really want to stand apart. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

Re: Interview Questions?

  • I usually ask "what does success in this role look like?"  or something like that.  Similarly, "what are the top 3 goals of the team/department/role?"  Also something about fitting in with the company such as "how would you describe the culture here?"

    Good luck!!

  • For a group setting, I like asking the questions "what is your favorite and least favorite thing about working here?" You can get a bunch of different perspectives, and read between the lines.

  • Not in HR, but I would think about possible questions that you would really like to know about the position to help you make a decision if you would be a good fit. I think that genuine interest in the position/company comes across better than some question that you are 'suppose to ask'.

For example, in my position some companies make it direct charge, some make it overhead. I much prefer overhead, so I would ask how the new company bills my position.

  • I like to ask how the interviewer got started in the company. Most people love to talk about themselves.

  • I usually ask what a typical day looks like for the position.

    Good Luck!

  • I'm in HR and I agree with the poster above.  Everyone likes to talk about themselves.  Ask about the person interviewing you, how long they've been with the company, what they like about working there, etc.
Also, any questions that show you've done your research are great (for instance - on your website, I see this company was founded in 1982.  Has it always been at this location?, or something more industry specific to where you are interviewing.

How was the interview? What did you end up asking and how did it go overall?

  • if it isn't too late for more suggestions, I like to ask about whether or not there will be any training and what they expect you to be proficient in and a time-frame for that.

my husband suggested to me that asking at the end of the interview if you fall short in what they're looking for and suggestions for improving. he says it shows your openness to constructive criticism and eagerness to improve.

    good luck!
