Cloth Diapering

Introduction! :)

Hi! I'm new to cloth diapering. My LO is just over seven months and I wish I had started sooner because I'm absolutely loving it. I went to "The Great Cloth Diaper Change" on April 26th and fell in love. I always thought of CD's as the old school leaky cloth and pins, I didn't realize how easy and adorable cloth is these days. So I started researching, placed my first orders, and finished my first day today. So far for me the OS pockets are what I have decided will work best for me and my family. I have BG's, RARZ, Tots Bots, and Little Bee Co. I like the Tots Bots and RARZ the most so far. I'm working on building my collection to try more brands but this will work for now. To those still reading sorry this was so long and hello!! :) And just because, here's a pic of my stash.

  • Very cute fluff!
  • I love that you have Albert! My husband is a Math and Physics teacher so I've come so close to buying Albert about a million times.

Dooooo it! It's the only full priced diaper I've bought and it's awesome. I bought it as a Flip, but I left the Elemental on our registry and we got it. So now we have two! My life feels more complete.
    I think you've convinced me :)

  • Thanks everyone! I do have a question, how long would you try a diaper before trading or selling it? My little bee diapers are leaving red marks on LO's legs and leaking. I've tried four of them and I'm pretty sure I have the fit right. Am I doing something wrong or do these ones just not work for us?

I don't know anything about that brand... Where is it leaking from?  Did you do the gap check?  Are the inserts soaked when you change?  What kind of inserts?  How often are you changing?

  • They are microfiber inserts, a little under two hours, definitely no gap, leaking around the legs like outer thigh area and a little bit on the upper side area like by his lower back. Are they too tight? Would that cause a leak and the red marks?
  • The inserts we only soaked by the front part not the back part.
  • Okay I have leaks with the BG and RARZ too, I think maybe I've been so use to disposables that I wasn't changing him enough, and the red marks are maybe from being too tight? I'm going to try changing him every two hours and loosening the diapers a bit.

I think that's a good start.  But at 7m he might just be outgrowing the absorbency of microfiber inserts.  A lot of people prefer bamboo or hemp for over night.  Or double stuff a pocket with one mf on top, then a bamboo or hemp underneath.  Natural fibers like bamboo and hemp hold more liquid, but they absorb slower.  MF absorbs very quickly, but is also prone to compression leaks and doesn't hold as much liquid.
So I would say change every 2 hours, explore different inserts, play with the fit, and report back.

Thanks for the help! I tried the different inserts like you suggested, the microfiber on top and hemp on the bottom, also I've been changing him as soon as I noticed he's gone potty or two hours whichever is sooner....an no more leaks! Yay!
