Wine lovers....

What is your favorite wine and about how much does it cost(I'm cheap)?

I've recently got into drinking wine at dinner sometimes and want to try a couple of different kinds. I got a Red Velvet flavor thinking it would be sweet and it's not. I'm trying to my best to drink it so that it's not a waste of my money.

Moscato is my favorite.  It's not a red wine, but it is sweet.  I just can't do dry wines.

ETA: And it's cheap depending on the brand you get.  I usually buy the Barefoot brand and it's never more that $10 a bottle.

  • Yes a Riesling or icewine but that is not cheap!

An inexpensive sweeter red that DH and I go through like crazy is the Bota Box Malbec. Yup, we're super classy with our wine in a box. It's just such a good deal!

ETA I guess you're not looking for a red necessarily - Bota makes a good Riesling too!

  • I like sweeter wines, and this is what I like:

Dreaming Tree- Crush (Dave Matthew's winery)
Cupcake Winery- Moscato d'Asti (sweet and bubbly, something similar to a champagne)
    Any type of German Riesling

For reds, make sure that they are aerated for a while. Open it, and let it sit for 30 minutes..they taste ALOT better when you do that.

  • Thanks ladies! I always see the barefoot but haven't tried them. That will be my next one to try. Yes @WasNotWas‌ - it's okay but not something I would buy again. The one I actually really like is from the dollar store and it's like 4.00. I tried one this past weekend at the grocery store and it was a chocolate cherry flavored and it was really good...I should have gotten it!

  • Cupcake moscato-it's sweet and doesn't cost much. I love it
  • I like malbecs and shiraz. Lately we have been buying Rex-Goliath because its pretty cheap and good but I also love Gnarly head

14 Hands Cab, 14 Hands Hot To Trot, Ménage e Trois, Smoking Loon Cab, Cellar No. 8 Pinot Noir.....I miss wine!

Edit: These aren't sweet but they are good!
  • Lakeridge winery in Clermont Florida, has a wine called Southern Red and one called Sunblush. If you can find them they are about $10 and are sweeter.

  • Oh I will recommend a Vinho Verde! You MUST try it - I've never had a bad one and they are not expensive! Your local trader Joes should have at least one.

It's a light, bright, crisp white wine. It's not sweet like a moscato but it's fruity and wonderful.

  • I don't really have much to add. Some of my favorites are Michigan wines. I agree if you're looking for a cheaper one, Barefoot is always a good choice. I do love the Yellowtail Moscato too. Kind of bubbly. Just stay away from Sutter Home. IMO, I'd rather pay a little more. I think their wine is gross. But, that's just me.

Kim Crawford savignon blanc is awesome, but it's a little pricey.  I love all wine but, savignon blancs are a great white selection for wino neophytes.  They're lighter, crisper and not too sweet.

I second the suggestion of apothic red. That one is delicious.  Ménage e Trois is also a good bet.
