Parenting after a Loss

Ughhhhhhhh

DD is a whopping 9 days old and I've had DS home the last two days with a fever and cold. Not as worried about the cold as I am about the fever. DH can't take any more time off work and DS is banned from daycare until he's fever free for 24 hours so it's just me and the two of them. Trying so hard to keep them separate and washing and sanitizing hands like nobody's business...switching shirts when I switch kids...not letting DS near DD...etc. As someone with generalized anxiety and who is borderline OCD this is seriously awful. Feel free to share your stories where you were in a similar situation and baby stayed healthy. Nothing like a positive anecdote to give me some hope!! TIA ladies.

Re: Ughhhhhhhh

  • Thank you! It's so hard bc it's just me with the two of them so I am clearly around both of them as opposed to having a designated DS caregiver and a designated DD caregiver. But as soon as this clears up I am sanitizing everything. You're right, it is tough because he's a little young to understand coughing into his sleeve, not wiping his nose with his hand, etc. Luckily he does love washing his hands.

  • Ugh.  I'm so sorry.  DS was sick the week after I brought DD home.  And despite taking steps that rival those in the movie "Outbreak" she still got it eventually, but it was a fairly mild case.  She did not get the fever, just the upper respiratory symptoms.  So we were on the Nosefrida and saline spray train very early.

The switching shirts thing was key for me, because DS was so drippy.

    Good luck!

  • I can't say there's a surefire way to keep the sickness at bay. I just tried my best to keep them apart, keep things sanitized and pump the eldest with TONS of fluids to kick the bug out. Have you checked out essential oils at all? There are some out there that help disinfect, like Thieves. Sick sucks!
