NT scan

Is this something that every OB does?  I just read online that it is to be done from weeks 11-14 (last day you can have the scan done is 13w6d).  My first OB appt was at 10 weeks and my next one isn't until 14w1d.  Should I call and ask?  Is it not a common test?  I thought it was, so that is why I am asking.

Thank you!!

It's common but if your are not in a risk factor some Obs don't mention it. Mine only offered one because I was worried about not having an ultrasound until 18 weeks and with ivf he did it more for my peace of mind. I would def call and say you want one.

^^^ My OB sent me b/c of my age. Other risk factors also factor in. Not everyone gets one done.

It's fairly common but depends on where you live, the practice, and patient preferences. My OB said that most patients at the practice decline, told us the pros and cons, it and left it up to us. If you request it they should refer you for one.

We are handed a folder of information at our initial OB appointment.  One of the brochures explains the NT scan and the Dr told us that we'd need to schedule it between weeks 11 and 13, but that it's up to us.

If you are interested in doing it, I would call and ask.

My OB strongly recommended it.  He positioned it like finding out the gender-- wouldn't you want to know if something was up?  I'm not a fan of doing it, but insurance covers 100% and my husband is a statistics man and he just wants to know our odds (for a 30 year old healthy woman, DH age doesn't matter, it's 1/500)

    IVF #1 Oct 2013- cancelled
IVF #2 Mar 2014- success.... baby girl born 11/28/14
FET #1 Mar 2016- baby boy due 12/16/16

My RE referred us to an MFM to have one done. I am not AMA but I am not a spring chicken either so I think my age factored in. Also my RE said that they like for their IF patients to have an NT scan since they have done so much to get where they are. They like them to have that peace of mind.

If you want one, I would definitely call and ask your OB about it.
