NCDR naps?

DS is 10 months old now, and has been STTN for almost two months. :D best thing ever.
The crib in his room has always been where he is supposed to sleep, but we have been sometimes bed sharers, when he is not feeling well, or just not sleeping well. We made an effort to stop that and to ease off night nursing when I got pregnant. Although he is sleeping through the night, I really don't think what we did made the difference, I think he was just ready.

HOWEVER, the kid will absolutely not take a nap in his bed. Ever. Well, he did sometimes before he was 4 months old, but not since then. I love the snuggles and so for a long time I have jut been holding him and using he time to bump/read/TV. But I just can't do that anymore and with a new baby coming he can't expect that forever.
At night when he gets put down, he will fuss for a few minutes and then fall asleep for 7-8 hours. At naptime, we do the same routine as bedtime and instead of fussing for a few minutes, he will basically cry until I go get him. The only way I have gotten him to nap without me holding him is to nurse him laying down and sneak away when he falls asleep. He is way to mobile to do this on my tall bed, so the past couple days we have done this on the floor of his room, and it doesn't last as long as if I were to hold him. (Like 30 minutes instead of 2 hrs ) I suppose this was just a vent, but I will take any advice anyone can throw at me too.
And just because this got so long, here is a picture of his adorableness when he does sleep.

Edited because it ate my paragraphs.image

I don't have advice, but I will tell you that 10 months was the peak of our sleep woes.  DC had to deal with the majority of her naps, and I guess they trained her well because she always did better at naps than at bedtime.
On days that she really fights us though, we have found music to really help.  Might be worth a shot.

  • I have to nurse to sleep for naps. Once he's out I put him in his crib. The fan is great white noise for him too. Otherwise he wakes up with random noises.

Also, when are you trying to put him down? DS has transitioned from needing a nap 2 hours from waking up to 3 hours. So even *if* he seems sleepy earlier than 3 hrs its a horrible struggle. If I wait until 3 hours he goes down much easier.

  • @TJ1979 Music is part of our regular routine :/

@YellowLily2013, I wait for him to let me know he is tired, but it is usually between 2-3 hrs after he wakes up. I actually wondered if he might be over tired, since I wait until he is actually acting tired. Maybe I should try both earlier and later and see if one way helps.

  • We have the same issue. I just want to put a twin mattress on his floor, so can slip away after nursing him. We'll need the crib anyways for #2. I don't think DH is quite on board yet, it hopefully we can try it when summer starts.

DD is quite a but younger but we are having the same problem. She STTN most nights but she will not take a good nap for anything. I think part of the problem is the reflux issues she's been having but it has been much better the past week or so and she still won't nap. I want to try and get her used to naps now because it will only be harder to change later, but so far no luck! I hope that you can get your little guy napping soon.
