Red areola?

My DD is 15 months and isn't nursing as often as she used to. I stopped pumping at work about 2 months ago. I've noticed that my right areola gets red and splotchy looking by the end of the day (during the week when I'm not pumping) and gradually gets lighter as DD nurses throughout the evening. I'm not in any pain and not having any symptoms other than the redness. I was wondering if this is normal and whether it happens to other people too. I'm extremely paranoid about my right breast (the side where the areola gets red) because I've had mastitis in it 8 times now! The last time I had mastitis was about 3 weeks ago, but the redness was on the top of my breast, not the areola. I finished the antibiotics and have had no pain or fever since.
