Success after IF

RP: first monitoring after Follistim today

Thought I would ask here since you ladies might have some experience. I was on 125iu of Follistim for 4 nights. Went in today and had 8 measurable follicles at 11, 9, 9, 11, 8, 6, 9, 10. My E2 was 750. They decided to drop the follistim to 75iu and I go back on Wednesday. Can some follicles just stop growing with the drop in follistim or does this sound like the cycle will get canceled? I definitely do not want to take any chances!

Hi. Not sure about your exact situation, but it's probably unlikely that they would stop growing. What CD are you on? Are you planning on doing IUI?

To me, it seems the greater risk for the cycle getting canceled is that you would have too many mature follicles for them to trigger you. Without knowing more about your cycle, I'm guessing that's why the reduced your meds. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctors explanation, feel free to call them so that you fully understand the protocol.

Actually I think it's fairly common for a few dominant follicles to pull ahead and the others either stop growing or even shrink.  But it depends on what you are doing whether you would be canceled.  If you are doing IVF then you want multiple follies.  If you are doing IUI, they will only want so many to prevent high order multiples.
TTC with PCOS since November 2009
    IUI#1 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP, m/c
    IUI#2 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 5-9) = BFN
    IUI#3 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP!
    beta #1 11/23 = 270, P4 = 75
    beta #2 11/28 = 2055
