clothing sizes

ok so I am having a really hard time trying to figure out what size clothing I should be buying for my twins that are due this summer.  with my first daughter I went two weeks overdue and she ended up being over 9 pounds when she was born.  with my second daughter my doctor let me go up to my due date and then I was scheduled for a c section two days later.  she was over 8 pounds when she was born.  I know that every pregnancy is different and I know that with twins there is an especially high chance of them coming early.  so I guess my question is, should I really be buying newborn size stuff or should I concentrate on getting 0-3 month clothes?  I am so confused!

You can always buy a few outfits in each size and keep the tags on. I bought a few preemie sized PJs, which were used for a week, but the rest was NB sized or bigger. My twins measured 6.1 and 6.9 born at 37wks and lost more than 10% in that first week versus DD's 6.14 birth weight at 40+wks. The boys wore NB sized clothing for a little more than a month.

I bought no NB clothes w my first and he ended up coming at 37w and weighed 6lbs so I was scrambling to find clothes that fit! He actually wore preemie for a week or two and then grew like a weed so I had a sparse collection of preemie and NB for the twins.

My twins were born at 34w and wore preemie for 6-8w and NB for 3mo. I waited to but clothes again but at least had a few things to tide me over. That worked much better than how unprepared I was the first go round.

My twins were born a few hours shy of 37 weeks, and were 6.5 lbs each. They both fit in premie size clothes for a few weeks but we totally could have gotten by with newborn sizes only. I did buy a few premie onsies before they were born, but then I learned that my hospital sold premie sized clothing in their gift shop, so I knew we could get stuff there in a pinch. If you have a hospital tour you may want to ask about this.

It's probably good to have at least a few newborn outfits. I went to 39 weeks and had  7lb 2 oz and 8lb 7 oz babies.  Even with these little monsters we used newborn for a few weeks since they lost some weight after birth.
