Pregnant after IF

Progesterone/Crinone Question

Did you guys get levels tested before D/Cing it, or did your RE or OB discontinue is purely based on how many weeks pregnant you were? if so, how many weeks?

I was previousl told to stop taking it this week by my RE (basically ,he said "take for 3 more week and then stop), but I am now seeing OB/GYN and no levels have been taken. Is that normal? I will basically have to stop taking it and then not have any type of monitoring appt of any type for 2 more weeks...

Does that sound about normal

I took progesterone until 12 weeks with no monitoring. It was hard mentally to break from 3x a day so I continued to 13 about once a day.

  • It does seem normal to me. I was supposed to wean at 9 weeks and stop at 10. I ended up weaning at 9 weeks and stopping at 11 only because I was worried. I didn't have my levels tested and everything is okay. I was nervous to stop, as I'm sure most of us are considering what we've all been through. But even when I saw my OB at 10 weeks he assured me that progesterone support is unnecessary long before I even stopped because the placenta takes over. My RE did tell me that being on it too long can cause sex organ issues in boy babies so that was enough for me to take the plunge and stop taking it like they directed. Good luck!

  • Once the placenta takes over around 8/9 weeks there isn't much need for suppositories. My OB had me finish out my supply since I had it but didn't check levels. I would say if you have some left it won't hurt to take it but unless you have bleeding/cramping and things are normal I don't think they really care to check levels.

This.  I just graduated from my RE today.  I am officially 8w2d but they told me that I can stop on Saturday which is 9 weeks.  Since I paid $100 for the prescription and some would go to waste, I'm taking it until 10 weeks.

I was told to stop at 9 weeks (and did stop then with no problems), I asked my OB about checking my level before stopping and he said it's not necessary.

  • I was nervous too since they are not going to check my levels - they told me to stop at 10 weeks, but I decided to finish out the vial.  So, I think tomorrow or Thursday will be my last shot.

  • I'm stopping at 10 weeks exactly. I was given this tapering plan at 6 weeks 4 days, and I haven't had my progesterone levels checked since 5 weeks 2 days. Your placenta should be producing enough progesterone by 8 weeks. Good luck!

  • My doctor told me to stop at 12 weeks.  I have had alot of bleeding these past 3 weeks (unrelated) and when I went in for an ultrasound the baby was measuring a week behind (I was 10w6d, baby was 9w6d).  I called the nurse on Friday and she said if the baby was a week behind that I should continue it until the baby was at 12 weeks.  She said there is no harm in taking it a couple more days.  I have my NT scan tonight and will see how big the baby is.  I guess I will determine when I am stopping when I get the news tonight.

  • I was on PIO and stopped at 10w4d when I ran out.  Stopping was such a welcome event due to the allergies to the oil and the site irritation from the needles that I didnt stress too much.  In fact, taking those last few shots was the hardest thing.

Then, at 17 weeks they turned around and put me on 17p injections weekly to prevent preterm labor.

  • @calindi, from what I understand, since you did IUI and not IVF or FET, you may not need to be on it as long as some of the rest of us. You actually ovulated, so your body will produce more progesterone naturally because of your corpus luteum. But, if you're nervous, you should ask your RE.

My RE is telling me that I will stay on only until 6.5 weeks. That seems early from what you ladies are saying... Should I be concerned?
My doctor told me that I can come off on Saturday - I'll be nine weeks.  One of my friends who went to the same practice was instructed to come off at 10 weeks.  Since I paid $100 for this prescription, I'm taking every last pill.
