Trouble TTC

**MFI Check In** (sorry so late)** this is the old one!!

edited May 2014 in Trouble TTC

Welcome! It's time to check-in for those of use dealing with MFI on our TTC journey. Fill us in on any updates!

We welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility, morphology or all three. Male infertility is a mysterious world filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists, acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to.Any treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for a fresh batch of swimmers. Most of us are told the only answer is IUI or IVF w/ICSI.The purpose of this group is to support each other through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the more informed we are the better. We will have a check in every other Thursday/Friday. Welcome and baby dust to all!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Anyone new, please intro w/name (if you want), MFI issues and where you are in your curent cycle! Thanks!

HUGS TO ALL THAT NEED THEM <3 FX TO ALL IN TWW!! <3

Any questions for the ladies in our group.. don't hesitate!!

QOTW: What are some healthy lunch & dinner meals that your DH actually likes?

Re: **MFI Check In** (sorry so late)** this is the old one!!

  • I am CD2 in my last IUI cycle, baseline scan is tomorrow. I'm sure I will be doing Femera and Follistim. By the time our IUI rolls around my DH should be around 3 months from starting Fertile Aid and Coq10. So hopefully it will have made a difference.

QOTW: My hubby really likes baked asparagus w/ olive oil, salt, pepper. He also loves a whole chicken roasted in the crock pot w/ verde salsa. Its so easy and soo good!

@kushie77‌ hope the appointment goes well.

DH eating something healthy?! He's the pickiest eater. That makes cooking for my needs and his tastes very difficult. He loves pb&j (not the over processed kind and with real sugar). He likes baked chicken with herb seasoning, green beans, peas, corn on the cob, rice, and scrambled eggs. He also likes a good steak (beef or bison). Or even a bowl of rice crispy cereal. Other then that he's not what I would consider a healthy eater.

  • Still in the midst of testing cycle. DH has SA this week, and it's funny how being told we *can't* makes us really *want* to!

DH is a trained chef, but if he had his way, his diet would be 90% meat. He's started drinking whole milk by the gallon; he thinks it is good for his swimmers and he also says it can save money compared to meat for when we have a baby, haha!

He likes to make himself soups and stirfries with mushrooms, tofu, leeks, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, etc. He also eats oranges and clementines by the bagful. Right now, the only girl's name he likes is Clementine. :) I just put in the garden this weekend so very soon he'll be getting lots of fresh herbs and veggies.

I just want to say, it's tough to deal with MFI! It's such a nebulous place. Sometimes I wish we could take a peek into the future, because I feel like someday modern medicine must have a better handle on sperm production. Good luck to all of us!

IUI #2 was a bust, and after 3 months of DH on letrozole, His numbers didn't really improve. We're veerry slowly getting the ball rolling toward IVF with ICSI (trying to get pre-IVF testing complete in the next couple months.) This month we'll try IUI #3. DH is staying on letrozole, but if his numbers are still in the crapper this month, I'm going to push the RE to let him stop it b/c it has done a number on his libido :( QOTW: We had thee most amazing dinner tonight, DH and I loved it. Baked salmon, spinach salad, peach applesauce and pumpkin ravioli with pesto. The ravioli was probably the least healthy part, but OMG it was amazing. Like crack cocaine good, if I knew what that was like, LOL. We try to make healthy dinners and have leftovers for lunch. Lately we've been trying really hard to swap alcohol and other drinks for water, but tonight's dinner was so amazing we decided it would be an injustice to have it without a nice glass...er, bottle....of wine. AF came last week so I decided it was OK. :) Edit: because decent grammar is hard.

I had an appointment yesterday, and it looks like I responded better/faster to letrozole than clomid, so IUI #4 will likely happen on Fri or Sat!  I am relieved b/c I was worried that it may be canceled due to an upcoming trip (I usually take a bit longer to respond).

I am vegetarian (nearly vegan) and, though DH is not vegetarian, we are both healthy eaters.  I love to cook, so I like to think that I'm pretty good at it; so DH will eat pretty much anything I make - aside from a kale smoothie - LOL. He particularly loves roasted vegetables, especially Brussels sprouts.
I just wish that he would cut back on the beer, as I'm worried that it is hurting his motility.

  • We have our second (since DH started clomid) SA Friday, and then we meet with our RE Monday to see what he says about the results. We are hoping to be able to attempt an iui, but if not we will be doing ivf with icsi. As far as supplements my dh is taking L-carnitine, Coq10, antioxidants, and a multivitamin for men.

My DH eats whatever I cook for dinner. I make a lot of chicken and always serve some kind of fresh vegetable. He likes asparagus, zucchini, and broccoli, so we do a lot of those on a regular basis. He is also a fan of salmon, but I am not. He used to eat pretty unhealthy for breakfast and lunch, but he has started to eat better. He eats more salad and fruit as long as I have it on hand. He has definitely had to cut back on alcohol because of MFI.  Our uro says to limit yourself to 4 drinks per week, and he also recommends lots of fruit and vegetables.

but may want to before moving forward with any fertility treatments.
After seeing the uro, DH is currently taking lots of supplements and clomid to try to boost his count. We will have a repeat SA in February to see if it works.
    Follow up SA numbers are: Count= 4 million, Motility= 40%, Morphology= 1%
Uro wants us to have another follow up SA 5/9 to see if we see further improvement than we are back to the RE to make a game plan.

We go back on Monday to get the results of Dh's retrograde/SA test and our plan. I had my cd 3 bloodwork redone around a week ago as well as my first date with the vag cam, which wasn't nearly as bad as I had convinced myself it would be.
According to the dr. all my levels and testing are great which makes for ' an excellent prognosis for egg production'  Whoop, I guess. Doesn't matter how great of an egg maker I am with the MFI.
We're also waiting on the results of my counsyl genetic testing.
We've pretty well decided that we will be doing Natural IVF but I'm hoping that perhaps we can add a little clomid in there to try and get a few more eggs, though I have no clue how that will work for me, since I've never been on it.
Hopefully we'll have more info and a concrete plan after monday.
DH had to change his diet significantly after the diabetes diagnosis, but one of the new favorites would be steak and a big ole bag of broccoli.

    TTC since March of 2012
    Me: 27 Dh: 35 Testing Begins 3/5/13
Six SA's show DH has low numbers across the board = severe MFI
Genetic testing for me = MTHFR+, also carrier for blood clotting disorder Otherwise all else normal
    Dh's karotype= Normal!!
     Mini-IVF/ICSI - July -August 2014 - 1R,M,&F Transferred 1 Grade 1 Morula-5dt - BFFN

  • Hi All,

Well I already posted today about how shitty things have been but we have a bit of better news regarding my DH SA! We went yesterday for our IUI#2 however he didn't produce enough sperm (first IUI he was around 8 million, yesterday 1 million) so they actually called him back to see if he could product another sample prior to the IUI. So although his count was very low his mobility went up from 35% to 56% this IUI! The nurse thinks that it can be all the supplements and change of diet!!! WOO HOO!

Now the so so part, they called me last night after the IUI when the blood report came in and I didn't ovulate yet so I went for blood work and they are requesting that I do more blood tomorrow and hopefully they will see a surge meaning another IUI for possibly Monday. I am really hoping to see some better numbers for him.

He has been so incredibly optimistic during this entire process and yesterday he just got so devastated that his numbers dropped. So crossing our fingers that our IUI goes well in the next day or so!

He will pretty much eat anything healthy as long as I cook it LOL! But since its grilling season now it will definitely help to get him to eat more lean protein. Tonight we are BBQ lean hamburgers and he is using portobello's as his bun!

Went to OBGYN in August 2013-Referred us to UCONN RE in September 2013

Me (31):  Blood / Ultrasound / HSG / SIS- All Great  -  DH (32): SA is very low

DH met with Urologist nothing is "wrong" just very low count and low mobility

RE 1st Consult October 31, 2013 - Male Infertility Dx.

IVF Seminar meeting on 6/12 & then meeting with RE on 7/9 to come up with our plan for our miracle baby!

  • hi ladies

Don't have much to report, as we're still benched. I'm about 9 dpo of an unmedicated cycle, and we were really horrible with TI lol. Although I was surprised that I ovulated on CD 15, like I did with my last two cycles where I was on femera. On my own I'm usually around cd 20-22. DH is still taking arimidex.

He said I was just trying to make him feel better. In any case, what kinds of supplements would you recommend getting started on while we're waiting for our follow-ups?
I'm going thru this post to update the check-in info and saw this question... my DH has been taking Fertile Blend and Coq10 for about 2.5 months. His counts went down actually, but his motility went up from 50% to 70%. Hope this helps!
