Cloth Diapering

FFMC

I sorted through my maternity clothes to let a friend borrow them.  Now I am seriously considering breaking out of pair of the maternity jeans I wore in the first tri because of that comfy elastic waistband.  Cinco de Mayo dinner would be a great time to try them, right? I'm *so* close.

I still wear my maternity jeans now and then. It seems like a great idea until halfway through the day when they start to fall. No waistband isn't always a good thing lol

  • I don't own any maternity pants! I carried super high, and then had a 32-week preemie, so I was still wearing my same jeans and work slacks (with a hair tie holding the button stretched but together). Now maternity tops.... I have those. My boobs were scary big. I still wear the mat sweaters when I want to be comfy.

  • Yeah, I totally realized right after I posted that that all our Pact Grads, and mostly our May Mommas-to-be are probably shooting daggers through their screens. I'm not really tall (5'6"), and have a short torso also, but I just didn't get all that big. I'm sure I'll be a house with my second. As long as I make it to full term next go around, I don't give a shit how big I get! I'll buy all the maternity pants!

I want to bop my niece on the head. She's a vegetarian now, which is fine. But she is the pickiest eater and I don't think she's being health about it. To give you an example, she doesn't eat yogurt (she doesn't like the consistence), any yogurt. She doesn't eat beans. And most likely not humus.

I seriously don't know where she's getting protein.

Nuts? And nut butters... Lentils or do those fall into the "bean" category for her...

Not gonna lie though yogurt is gross!

Maybe she's a pescatarian and eats fish?

No, no fish, pork, chicken, or beef.

I'm not a fan of yogurt, but then I add fresh fruit, nuts and granola and it's awesome. I suggested this as an alternative. She'll eat it frozen. That's about it.

    She'll eat quinoa as well.

  • L and I are both sick, but I don't have it very bad (L has a cough and fever, but I don't). I am totally using it as an excuse to bum around the house all day and do nothing. I showered and have done one load of laundry. Good enough.

  • I find myself wondering a lot lately if DS would be better off going to DC. I feel like I don't do enough to stimulate him, even though I try, and I don't really know how to fix it. I'm so stinkin' tired!

I totally struggle with this, too.  I always wonder if I'm doing enough with DS at home.  I do send DS to daycare once a week (sometimes twice if I have something random going on) and it has been great for us both.  I get a break from 24/7 parenting and I get to do everything around the house that gets neglected while he's around.  He gets a break from being with me 24/7, haha.  He uses his language skills so much more at DC.  It blows me away when I pick him up and they tell me the words he uses there.  And he always comes home worn out (in a good way) and in a great mood.  If you can comfortably afford it, I highly recommend trying part-time daycare.
  • If you can't tho, don't worry. Just talking to him and explaining what you're doing and all that helps tons. I would just talk to S like she was another adult bc I had no one else to talk to, and her language skills were amazing early on. Playing with them teaches them too, but you don't have to play all day. Just looking at toys stimulates their brain, it's doesn't have to be organized lessons. One girl on my bmb actually had a name for the time she spent working on milestones and crap like tracking and reaching. IMO that's ridiculous. Just play with the kid. They will learn better that way.
Agreed.  I totally count showing him how I wash the dishes, cook meals, etc. as educational time, too!
  • Okay, y'all are making me feel a little bit better. We do read all the time, and I talk to him a lot. He asks me to read to him at least 3 or 4 times a day, besides our regular nap and bedtime reading. I just feel bad that I'm too tired/impatient right now to drag out the art supplies or play dough very often. I have to really psych myself up to take him to the playground b/c it means me not sitting down for an hour. DH and I are considering doing DC 2 days a week, especially when the butter bean gets here. I really need to go do some tours. Ugh. Thankfully N does have pretty good language skills. A couple of days ago he bit his tongue, and he very clearly told me (in a pitiful whiney voice), "Oh! I sad. I tongue broke."

My mom had an in-home DC while I was growing up. She went to all sorts of training workshops on preschoolers to keep her state accreditation, and her advice to me with D was always to talk to him and involve him in whatever I'm doing. I think he was more than ready for kindergarten doing that. (His DC was useless for teaching him things once he got past age 3 or so.)

  • Ok, I'm gonna play and I fully expect to be flamed for this. DH is quitting smoking (I quit years ago). Well he is useing a vaporizer and has all these yummy favors. I've been hitting off this set home vaporizer during the day. It has low nicotine because he is quitting. Well I kind of LOVE I! Tomorrow while in town I totally plan to go get myself one but with no nicotine. It's bad I know, but I've got some health crap going on and deserve something selfish.

I had a co-worker whose wife was 'vegetarian' like this. She also did not like most vegetables. I think all she ate was bread and potatoes.

Given that DD doesn't even own play-doh, I don't think that's anything to worry about! And as far as art supplies - she has crayons and stickers to use with paper, but that's about it. I have zero interest in cleaning up after a 2-year old 'paints' (maybe this is my FFMC?), so she paints at MILs or when we go to the kids' creativity museum (we do this relatively frequently as it's close by and we have a membership).

  • I don't let my kids have stickers.

My nephew is terrified of stickers

  • Lol why??
DS is not terrified of stickers, but he doesn't seem to like them because he can't get them off his hands :)
  • I let my kid go crazy with stickers. All my stuff is junky anyway.

You can get protein from pretty much all fruits and veggies. They're not complete proteins, but most people can easily get everything they need by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Not so much just potatoes and bread, though.

  • I want chocolate so bad that I took the last few drops of maple syrup and mixed it with tiny bits of cocoa, coconut oil, peanut butter, and hemp seeds and I'm now eating it with a spoon and pretending it's a very soft cookie. But I used too much hemp and not enough chocolate. I'm not sure if it's making me happier or more sad.

I just made this tonight. https://www.theironyou.com/2013/11/chocolate-avocado-chia-pudding.html I'm Atkins it now, and I feel like it's almost too chocolatey. I don't think I can finish it. Or maybe our blender sucks enough that I think that.... Considering there are still chunks of coconut oil....
