Avoid places where people are likely to go even if they're sick. We were on strict lockdown anyway, but were told specifically to avoid church and grocery stores.
Your pediatrician or the neonatologist can probably help give guidelines specific to any health concerns your child has, since the precautions will be different depending on how premature and what medical conditions the child(ren) still have.
We are on strict lockdown through flu and rsv season because of chronic lung disease concerns. There's a quarantine period for any visitors who have been sick, been around someone who has been sick, been in high-risk exposure situations (crowds, church, wal-mart), or been around any children.
After flu and rsv season is over (please, please let it be soon), the strict house arrest restrictions and quarantine period for visitors ease up. We will still avoid situations where people are sick and ask the people who are sick to delay their visits. Church, grocery stores, wal-mart, flights, and daycares were on the NICU's really high risk exposure list, so we'll try to limit visits to those types of places unless it can't be helped.

We've been off lockdown since March (when our rsv season was over) and we've taken him quite a few places but always on off times. I had quite a few errands to run though and now I'm second guessing myself so I might just wait until the weekend when MH is home. Thanks ladies!
We didn't have specific lockdown instructions, but we're told whatever were comfortable with. LO had chronic lung disease and came home on o2 in October, but we didn't do any hardcore avoiding of places. We were just cautious and if we were around people, we pushed hand washing (still do) and tried to avoid busy times (ie target middle of the week during the day instead of Saturday afternoons). We also kept the carseat covered up if we were at a busy place. Lo had five doses of Synagis this RSV season too.
Luckily we've stayed healthy and LO had one small case of sniffles after starting daycare, but that's it!
We were told to stay away from crowds, and we avoided the grocery store and malls. When we were out in public, I was usually wearing her, so people couldn't touch/breathe on her.
