Safety harness backpack

Do any of you ladies use one? I'm afraid of LO running off if we are out in public so I am gonna try one. Also will be nice for LO to carry his own sippy cup/toys/snacks etc..
I mean basically it's a leash so I don't know if it's bad to use or not. What are all your thoughts?

Re: Safety harness backpack

  • We have one, and have used it once. As much as i always hated the idea of "leashing" my kid? I have to admit, the whole thing comes in handy. It gives him the freedom to run around and explore (we took him to a zoo and an aquarium with it), while giving me the piece of mind that i am not going to lose him. We have one of the stuffed animal kinds, so he gets to hang out with this owl (that looks more like an penguin with a pigment condition), and play to his heart's content. I suspect it will be a life saver in airports. I understand why people side eye them, i certainly did, but they serve a function that sometimes i feel is necessary for us. *shrug*

  • I'm totally getting one for the reasons PPs gave. Skip Hop makes an owl, a monkey, or a ladybug backpack/harness and I think I'll let her pick one of those. We tried one on and she loved it, I just didn't have the money at the time.

  • For regular trips to the grocery store and target no but for disney and the zoo I would consider getting one. Like @MichieU79‌ I thought they were ridiculous too but now not so much.
This is exactly what we got ours for. We let him walk, holding our hands at the store, but for big places that are meant to be explored, i figured it was worth a shot, and it worked out pretty well.

Umm yes. And I love it.

Strollers aren't really a thing here, most kids are carried or walk at a young age. I don't want to lose DD so she has a Skip Hop backpack leash.

ETA the worst part is my giggling. I laugh all the time with how funny she looks tugging at the end of the leash but at least she isn't running away. People think it's cute.
  • Agreed! If it keeps DD safe than that's enough reason to use one. My brother was always on a leash and I used to make fun of him, but now I realize why my mom had one. DD wants to explore and loves strangers, plus she's such a ball of energy I have a hard time keeping up, so I will definitely be be using one.

Following this thread because I want to take DD to the zoo this week, and she will not chill in her stroller anymore. Glad to see I'm not the only with zero reservations about putting my kiddo on a leash!

Our Skip Hop owl harness arrived in the mail on Friday. My DD is a runner and is not content in the stroller for more than 15-20 minutes. Now she doesn't feel so confined and is happier on our outings.

I never thought if leash my kids until I had them. Ds had a monkey one that we still have. I haven't used it for dd yet though because she's just started walking. People leash their pets so they don't lose them. I don't want to lose my kid either.

To pp, no, ds was never able to get his off, maybe he never tried, I'm not sure, but he was a crafty little bugger.

For those of you that use them: Do your LOs try to take them off and are they able to?
No, our backpack has a buckle on the front across her chest. She loves playing with the buckle but can't get it off, the leash is detachable but she can't reach it.
