OT craziness for naps

So I've been in our driveway for 30minutes, on my phone, because this baby fell asleep two minutes before we got home. I couldn't wake him up.

What's a crazy thing you've done to not disturb a nap?

  • Totally done this. In fact, I planned for it... Picked up my lunch on the way home (nap time is around noon), and used my phone as a hotspot to get some work done on my laptop.

  • I've been there, too! DS never made it through the car to crib nap transition without waking up, so we hung out in the car a lot when he still took several naps per day. My cell phone Vegas solitaire score is up past $50k.

  • Parked in the driveway and spent an hour picking dandelions out of my front yard last week.

  • Yep, we do that a lot. My husband and I both sat in the car with a napping baby this afternoon. Husband ended up napping too.

Ok this brings up a FTM question: We have an attached garage that connects to the dining room. If my kid fell asleep in the car (and it wasn't too hot or cold in the garage) and I didn't want to leave the door between the garage and the house open (cats), would there be anything wrong with sticking the baby monitor in the car with LO and going about my business in the house as if she had fallen asleep in her crib? I fully expect to hang out with a sleeping LO while out on errands, but this thread made me think about at home and it seems to me that this would be ok.
This just sounds like something the "experts" would say is a no-no for some reason, but I would totally do it.

If you're using an infant seat, I would take her in. I can usually carry my son into the house in the infant seat without waking him.

If she is in a convertible car seat, I'd go for it. But I'd leave the car door open and check frequently. If it happens a lot, you could always consider adding a screen door.

And as a toddler, my daughter would freak out if she woke in a car without me there. Just keep that in mind.

Experts say no to everything it seems.
  • @Mapleme - I'm a very nervous person, so I don't think I personally would. I am not sure what I'd be worried about, but it would just scare me. Also, I'm sure you've probably read about it, but folks have been known to hack into wireless monitoring. There was a case of it not far from me just a few weeks ago. I think the parents were using something like a regular camera (I can't think of the right word, but like for Skyping) and an iPhone, and someone hacked their network and started screaming at the baby to wake up. (I guess the idiot didn't realize that the camera didn't have a speaker, so he really was screaming at the parents, but still.) So anyway, yeah, be sure you're encrypted or password protected or whatever.

That's kind of insane. In truth I'd rather have a hacker scream at my baby than steal my credit card information. I'm sure they learned their lesson on that one. A lot of folks make sure to password protect their network but don't think to change the default password on their router. It's a really basic hack.
LOL.  I'm gonna break out the "Just you wait and see" card ;)
