Flats & Closureless Fitteds. Give me your wisdom.

So at 4 months and 14 lbs my babe is outgrowing the yellow edge GMD closureless fitteds. I could probably make them work longer around the waist but we've run out of rise. We are also pushing it when it comes to absorbancy. Right now I use a hemp doubler and if he feeds even one extra time a night he pee's right out of it. I'm thinking of either buying a couple more GMD's in a larger size or buying some good flats, maybe bamboo/cotton flats. So give me your advice. If I go with GMD closureless fitteds can I skip to large without going to medium? I know it says you can on the website but I'm curious if any of you have done it and what your feedback is. Also, would a closureless Sbish work better? I just hate fitteds with snaps. Can the flat's users recommend their nighttime setup or flats that they think would work?

  • Ime, and while I love wh fitteds, other fitteds are more absorbent. I think esbaby also does closure less but I'm not sure.

Yeah we LOVE our WHs, but I don't think I'd rely on them for ON unless you have a less than avg. pe'er or an older babe that holds it ON.

I think @Chickypoo2468‌ and @unaveragejane‌ use Sbish hemp flats ON. I use either an imagine premium cotton prefold or a bamboo prefold with an AppleCheeks bamboo insert as a doubler. Has worked great for us since 9 months or so.

  • Yep, I love my s'bish bamboo flats, although they are built more like a prefold. I can get away with a trifold, but when your LO starts rolling or side-sleeping, you'd probably want to snappi or pin them on for more coverage. The cool thing is that MK and I use the same size (Medium), even though our LOs are about 18 months apart. She pins/snappis and uses a doubler. I trifold and don't usually have to use a doubler anymore. In other words, that $10 investment has lasted way longer than the $25 I spent on sized fitteds before we found flats.

I also have an S'bish snappless fitted, and it holds up pretty well at night. I don't feel like it holds quite as much as the OBF fitteds (with snaps), but it has the advantage of being softer and having turned edges at the crotch (versus the serged edge which seems to rub DS's thighs).

  • I use a medium WH at night with a CBI. We are still in yellow edge prefolds, but skipped yellow WH. So I would say it's not hard to skip a size especially if you are going to use something else in combination with it for night time. If you want to use it alone, I would not recommend WHs. I also have a s'bish bamboo flat, but I bought a size large which is still too big so we don't use yet, but seems to be much more absorbent.

  • Has anyone used the hemp/cotton flat from Geffen Baby or the bamboo/cotton from Nicki's or Blueberry? I don't think he pee's overly much at night. We are usually fine with the absorbancy of the small workhorse and doubler but we are at that sleep regression phase and if he wakes an extra time to eata he pee's out of it the last couple hours of the morning. I just don't know how I would like the Sbish flat since it is more like a prefold.
