how long can a bruise last?

My  DS fell at daycare about a month ago and had a bad bruise on his face/cheek area. It was checked out at the time by the dr. A month later you can still see a trace of the bruise and there's a faint line that looks a little raised to me. Can bruises really last this long? If feels like its going to be permanent but I have never heard of that happening.

from our experience, bruises last a couple of weeks, depending on how hard kiddos were hit or how hard they hit something...so i wouldn't be surprised that a bruise on a more sensitive area (like the face) could last a bit longer.

DH had a climbing accident 12 years ago and ended up bashing his knee into the side of the mountain. It sounds crazy, but I want to say it took well over 6 months for the bruise to completely go away. While his is an extreme example, bruises can last a loooong time.

Thanks for all your feedback. Very reassuring. Since it is on his face I worry more than if it was somewhere else.
