Biggest fear(s)?

What are you afraid of? Even if it seems irrational... Or what gives you anxiety?
Do your kids seem to have any fears yet?

Heights (but not until recently)
Definitely claustrophobic
Clowns :((

DS doesn't seem to have any fears? I actually call him fearless. I would like for the whole stranger danger thing to kick in soon. He is just so friendly. The girls are too little to exhibit fears. DS will have an occasional nightmare, but I think that's from his active imagination.

Re: Biggest fear(s)?

  • Ok so the Clowns thing is random and rare. But day to day, I get pretty anxious at night when DH is OOT for work, which is weekly now. Oh and DS might be a bit scared of the dark? Nothing a dim lamp can't fix at bedtime.

  • I don't know about real 'fears' I'm pretty rational and adventurous. I do have a lot of anxiety about things happening to my family and I have a hard time staying calm during storms if I am totally alone.

I don't think I'm afraid of anything else, though? I forced myself to push through a lot of situations that used to make me uncomfortable.

  • Fears? Pretty much everything. I have anxiety and am pretty much afraid of the world DH says. It sucks, but I manage it well.
DD I thought was fearless but the other day she saw a moth and jumped on top of her chair and screamed at me to get it. Oh and the "monster" in frozen...
DH isn't afraid of anything. Lucky.

  • I'm extremely claustrophobic and TERRIFIED of mice. I know in my mind they can't do anything to me but I can't handle them. Enough that I may have stayed at my parents when I saw one at our house when we were newlyweds and DH was working nights.
  • Heights, particularly if I'm holding a baby. I envision myself tripping and throwing the baby off a balcony.

Bodies of water around small children. Even toilets and puddles.

I also just have generalized anxiety and play out worst case scenarios in my head about everything.

  • Forgot to add DS1 is also afraid of heights. All the kids at his gym class love the zip line but he refuses to do it.

That also reminds me that I did go zip lining in Costa Rica despite my fear of heights...and I got hurt. I couldn't stop myself and my leg swing up into the line and I got a massive bruise all over my thigh. Not quite Toby on the Office, but still painful.

Snakes. I can't explain why, they just creep me out.

I also can't watch anything about zombies, demons, serial murderers, rape, or anything considered a horror movie. I will have nightmares and they will freak me out.

DS is only two and doesn't like going down slides.

  • I don't like other people playing with knives. If they are using them properly, no biggie, but showing them off or throwing them.... I'm outta there

Little man doesn't like loud noises. There are some toys that scare him and he runs down the hallway screaming "no!" but if we are outside he loves when a truck makes a loud noise or the weed eater.

I'm afraid of snakes and natural disasters...especially tornadoes.

DD is terrified of thunderstorms. She wakes up EVERY time and I can feel her shaking. She also is afraid of bugs and snakes.

DS doesn't really seem to be afraid of much.

  • @mamaalysson‌ my XH was scared of moths, too! I didn't even know that was a thing people were afraid of.

A few years ago I had a terrifying incounter with approx ten million moths in the desert, and ever since then I am not laughing.

Claustrophobic, and stuffed animals, they creep me out.
But what really gives me anxiety is the fear of something tragic happening to one of my kids or DH. I The thought of losing them terrifies me.

And falling from heights...not the height itself, but the idea of falling through/over a railing or the glass breaking. Being high in a tall building with floor to ceiling glass and no balconies...yikes!

I'm afraid of heights and lightening. DD 1 is afraid of bare windows at night. It has to have a curtain or she will panic and can't sleep. DD 2 & 4 are afraid of the dark. DS doesn't seem afraid of anything yet.

I'm in the "driving over bridges" camp, and anywhere else high up, like fly overs and mountain roads with a drop off on the side.

    Being abandoned.

Someone breaking in to the house while we're home.

    Someone taking my kids.

I also make up random scenarios in my head a lot, like the cashier at a store getting confrontational and wanting to fight, or thinking a huge dog will run around the corner and attack me. Not all the time, but I have anxiety and my brain goes weird, scary places sometimes.

ETA: My kids aren't consistently afraid of anything yet that I know of, though DD really doesn't like toys that have moving mouths when they talk. It's odd.

    Me-
Falling and getting hurt/knocked unconscious while I'm home with LO and no one finding me (h travels a lot for work).
Someone breaking in while h is away and hurting LO/me.

Things that give me anxiety/not total fears-
    -bugs of all sizes
    -heights
    -other people's hair on me
    -things in the ocean
-driving over bridges across large bodies of water

My Nana (Dad's Mom) had a major panic attack on the bridge connecting Indiana to Louisville, KY like 35 years ago, before I was born. My Mom and Dad were moving her down to Gulf Shores, AL. Her Mom (Grandma Rose) was really sick at the time so she was anxious and just froze on the bridge. Stopped her car in rush hour! We *always* tell that story when we cross that bridge. I miss her so much!!

This is will sound strange and I will do my best to describe it, but I have something called trypophobia or the fear of clusters of holes.  Yeah a bunch of holes, like in a hive or say a lotus pod give me the creeps.

I also don't llike reaching for stuff in our garbage disposal because I am afraid it will magically turn on while my hand is down there.

I've heard of that one, and always wondered how one develops such a specific phobia.
