We bought a new house and we are thinking of having the boys share a room for a few years. The room they would be in won't fit two beds so we would have to bunk them. My oldest is almost five and I'm trying to decide if he is old enough to sleep on the top bunk. I think he will be ok, but he does have night terrors once in awhile, where he thrashes around a bit. Does anyone have their child in a bunk bed at this age?
Our girls got one right before their 5th and 3rd birthdays. We had no choice, we were moving and the room they were sharing (2 bedroom home, so they had to share) can't fit two twin beds.
We did bunks when DD1 was 3.5. DD2 moved to the top bunk at 4.5. We've never had a issue unless you count puking on your comforter because you cannot get out of bed fast enough.
Re: How old for bunk bed?
I would likely try top bunk at age 5-ish for the right kid, maybe later if the kid didn't understand the safety aspect.
