Am I over stressing?

We have our individual interviews next week. Mine is scheduled for Wednesday.

Today I was on a school field trip with our 7 year old DD and I turned my head really fast to look at something and I was overwhelmed with pain, dizziness and nausea. I was in so much pain and pretty out of it so one of the other moms called 911. I went to the ER and found out that I have a bulging disk in my neck that I was unaware if and apparently when I turned my head it protruded more and effected the nerves around it tremendously. I am on pain medication and wearing a neck brace. I also have to follow up with a neurosurgeon for a possible but not definite surgery to repair the bulging disk.

So after all that, I'm worried that the SW that is interviewing us will not think I'm capable of moving forward.

Could that happen? Am I overreacting? Am I just plain crazy?

If you read this super long post, thank you!

Re: Am I over stressing?

  • Bulging discs are typically pretty easy to treat. I would run it by your SW in case you need some time to recover before you take on a placement.

  • I wouldn't worry too much. Typically, prospective adoptive parents are only ruled out for ailments if they are deemed incapable of parenting. The process takes so long, typically, that by the time you get a placement, you'll likely be better. At worst, I. Can see them delaying your home study approval or saying you can't receive a child into your care until you are better able to move/get about. This doesn't sound like a disqualifying situation. As Dr. L. said, talk it over with your social worker, and make sure you are on the same page and she understands this is a temporary situation.
