Breastfeeding

What does your let-down feel like?

Ive been nursing my 4 week old since day one and last week I began having a rather painful tingling/achy sensation through both breasts. I believe this feeling may be my letdown? I tested my theory while pumping. Does anyone have a similar feeling letdown or is this pain possibly associated with another issue?

  • I had a very uncomfortable, actually rather painful, sensation for several months after DS was born.  Eventually it became more of the tingling I had heard about.  The pain / discomfort definitely resolved!

  • Sounds like a sensation of letdown. I didn't start feeling mine till 5-6 weeks PP. It has gotten less intense but is still there now.

  • I get that tingling feeling too. It happens when I'm not feeding though so I'm not sure it's a let down. I kinda assumed it was milk being made or something.

  • I thought the let down was that initial gush when you start feeding. During the initial gush, I feel nothing. My LC kept asking if I felt the gush, but I didn't?

I don't feel anything when feeding either. I get the tingling sensation shortly before it's time to eat sometimes but never during.
  • Yea i get the feeling before feeding when she is crying or im changing her diaper. And i feel a milder version of it while nursing. And i get chills through my boobs when im cold that can be rather unpleasant..

  • My letdown feels like lightning running down both breasts. I'm used to it now but it still catches me off guard sometimes.

My letdown hurt for the first couple of months. My DS is almost nine months now and the letdown only hurts sometimes but is usually just a weird sensation.
