Can't get the right fit with snaps!

When pg with DS2 I had all my BG pockets converted to snaps. The aplix was wearing out and would barely stick and scratched DS1's belly when he wore them. Now I'm regretting it. I can't get the right fit with the snaps! One set is too tight on DS2, the next bigger setting is too big and they leak out the legs. Has anyone else had this problem? We have been in disposables for over a month now, I'm ready to sell my whole stash and start over. Any suggestions?

  • Have you snapped them unevenly? One side tighter than the other? Sometimes that will give the right fit.

  • I can't see tickers. How old? And if you can fit a finger under the elastic, that's not too tight

He is 2.5 months old. 15lbs. Snapping uneven makes one leg bigger than the other so one leg will leak. Maybe BG just doesn't work for him....

  • Both the waist and the rise affect the tightness of the leg hole. So if you go up in rise you can see if tightening the waist helps. Or if you go out on the waist, you may even need to go down on the rise. So there are a ton of different combinations that might be the right one.

And like @Mandmeesh‌ said, are you sure it is really too tight? What makes you say it is TOO tight? If one setting is loose enough to leak easily, it is pretty likely that the next smallest setting is not going to be too tight.

Hmmmm I'll give that a try. I love my CDs and this is NOT helping to convert DH

The legs aren't too tight on the smaller setting but the waist is. I'll try what chickypoo suggested and make the waist snap bigger. Ugh aplix was so much easier!

  • Just to let you know sunbabys are snaps, but have separate hip snaps. I like this over my bg snaps because I can set the legs and waist separately. I switch between my sunbabys and flip aplex all the time. The sunbabys are the only snaps I like at this point. Added plus, they are cheep! You can get just the diaper with no inserts,

  • I have a terrible time with the fit of BGs on DS, even snapping unevenly. We finally went back down a rise snap and out one waist snap (so it's uneven at the waist) and it works ok. I don't have this trouble with any of my other snap diapers except for Kawaii's. And the problem comes and goes as he grows.

  • Did you replace the leg elastic in the diapers between LOs? Especially if your older child was chunkier than your younger one, this can make a huge difference.

I didn't replace the leg elastic, I know some of them need it but most are fine. DS1 was a skinny baby and DS2 is a chunk! I went up to the middle rise setting and they fit better than when I last tried. They are usable for now so we will stick with them. But DH really likes the one Happy Heiny we have, so I think I will slowly replace my stash with those and other H&L CDs. Good to know I'm not the only one with this problem though!
