Baby Names

Isaac

What are your thoughts about Isaac? Is it mostly used as Isaac or is it one of those names that are prone to nicknames? (I'm not big on nicknames.) DH liked it. I vetoed it but we are having a hard time compromising so I am going through some of the crossed off names again. (Big brothers are Lucas and Joel. Big sister is Delaney.)

Re: Isaac

  • I don't think it's a name that would naturally be NN'd.

  • I agree it isn't easily nick named.  Maybe Zac/Zack.  Is Ike short for Isaac??  But really, you can avoid it by introducing him as Isaac.  Maybe when he's older you won't have as much say, but that's how it is for even the least nick namey name out there.  It's nms, but I think it goes great with your other children's names.

  • It's not really my style either! I wish naming humans wasn't so hard!! Or that we didn't have to compromise, haha!

  • Isaac is our top choice for a boy. I'm big on no-nicknames and I don't think Isaac has a natural nickname.
  • I love the name Isaac but DH is not impressed, so it's not on our list.

The only NN I have ever heard for Isaac is Ike and it's usually decided that is what the child will be called by the parents. Most kids will call your child whatever your child says his name is. So if you want him to stay Isaac, he most likely will.

  • My 13 year old son is Isaac. We never gave him a nn nor did anyone else. He does call himself Izo, which his football buddies also call him.
  • I love Isaac :) It goes really well with your sibset. I knew someone whose Mom called him Izzy but I never really liked it. It doesn't have a natural NN.

I love the name Isaac and it is in my top 3...thought I had hubby on board, but now he says it sounds very "Jewish" which we are not. I know it is an Old Testament biblical name, and so is our Ds's name (Adam), so I don't really see the difference. I think the name goes well with your sibset, too!
