Is It OK to Sleep on Side?

I've always wondered if I'm restricting milk production or if it was the cause of my plugged ducts when I was sleeping on my side at night. I almost always sleep on my back now which is uncomfortable. Anyone know?

Re: Is It OK to Sleep on Side?

  • i usually sleep on my side and haven't had issues. i have gotten the beginnings of blocked ducts from sleeping on my stomach, however. i think you're just supposed to avoid any sleeping position that puts undue pressure on a breast. but i'm sure it varies from woman to woman as well.

  • I suffer from recurrent plugged ducts, and side sleeping is one of the triggers for me. Especially if you are getting them in the upper/outer portions of your breasts, then side-sleeping can definitely be the cause (according to my experience and my LC, too). I've been sleeping on my back, and they have gotten somewhat better, at least in the upper/outer area. It sucks not to be able to sleep on my side, but not as much as having more plugged ducts!
