Re: GTKY 5/2 Edition!
I work my own hours, which vaguely resemble normal office hours. Bed time lately is typically no later than 10:30, and will probably be earlier when I start weaning Alarico and no longer pump at night. My average wake up time is about 6:30, given my druthers I'd sleep until 8 every day. I do very well on lots of solid sleep. Morning routine is make tea (I'm British and can not make it far out of bed without a double bag cup of PG Tips), then run back upstairs to shower, while watching Alarico play on the floor through the crack in the shower curtain. I then get him ready, put on make up, throw on something that sometimes matches, fly out the door.
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age?
Violence. The world seems so full of it lately.
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
Lots of pickled veggies and preserves. Some spring mix and baby spinach, chicken drumsticks, milk, wine, flax meal, assorted condiments, butter, garlic, veggies and random leftovers.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
My sons' teacher told me how cute it was that he kept kissing one of the tiny infants on the head, then play drums on their noggin.....
5. What's up this weekend?
Prepping to be away for most of next week, so pedicure, food prep so that V doesn't have to deal with baby and cooking in the evenings, maybe a 5k tomorrow morning, hopefully some sunday snuggles!
This varies - but usually between 10-12. Often its on the later end of things. I get up when Kaden does - this morning it was around 7am, but usually between 6-7.
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age? People, scary, dangerous people. I can't even let my mind wander there and to be honest I don't watch conventional news since becoming pregnant with him. My heart breaks for all the terrible and crazy things that can happen to children and adults in our world.
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now. LOL - just sent EV to the grocery store to stock up on last minute things (just in case we're having a baby in the next day or so). But everything from raw chicken, cooked lamb, eggs, bread, butter, yogurt, sour cream, other dairy, cheese, juice, San Pellegrino sodas in a can, vitamin water, coconut water, carrot juice, condiments, vitamins, peanut butter and jelly and other spreads. Hot dogs and bratwurst, ummmm. veggies and fruit like apples, squash, cauliflower, zucchini....
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week. Well we think my water broke this morning (in a few short gushes). The first time I thought I had lost control of my bladder while lying in bed. Ooops. But nope, the second and third time I knew that wasn't the case. I'm having some menstrual like cramping but no full blown contractions yet. We've alerted family in case they need to leave work early and will be contacting our midwives after 9am (in a few minutes). We'll see FX baby Owen makes an appearance soon.
5. What's up this weekend? Maybe having a baby?? That'd be nice :-)

"Things separate from their stories have no meaning. They are only shapes. Of a certain size and color. A certain weight. When their meaning has become lost to us they no longer have even a name. The story on the other hand can never be lost from its place in the world for it is that place.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing
2. Definitely a combination of violence and radical folks who like to target others and then commit acts of violence. I worry about everything from school shootings, to plane hijackings, to violent protests... I want to keep my children in a bubble, please!
3. Milk, eggs, lots of various cheese, yogurt, spinach, a red pepper, some asparagus, apples, misc condiments... It's the end of the week, so most of our fresh food has been eaten. I will stock up again this weekend!
4. Last night I stood up from the couch and panicked because my pants felt damp. My wife immediately asked if I might have "peed a little" - I quickly snapped no! I went to the bathroom to investigate and was really worried I might be leaking fluid. Nope, I was just sweating. I was sitting on our leather couch under a blanket and I guess I got too warm. I know, awesome. I am not even embarrassed to share this story (though I probably should be!)...my wife and I laughed about it for entirely too long!
5. Grocery shopping, cleaning, organizing, hopefully a load of baby laundry, finishing packing my hospital bag, and a friend is coming over to help my wife change several light fixtures. I also hope to spent a decent amount of time on my butt with my feet up. I am feeling tired!
Me - 30, My wife - 31 , Together for 10 yrs - Married August 2012
5 medicated IUIs w/ RE (March - July 2013) = BFN
Fresh IVF Cycle in September 2013 resulted in 18 mature eggs, 16 fertilized, 12 made it to day 5. Transfer of 2 Grade A blastocysts on 9/15/13, and 10 embryos in the freezer! *****BFP on 9/25/13 - betas: @10dp5dt = 232; @12dp5dt = 465; @15dp5dt = 1,581 *********William George born June 4, 2014*********Between 9:30 and 11, but usually around 10. We generally read in bed for about 15-20 minutes before we turn the lights out. On work days I get up at 6:15. Pre-pregnancy, I would generally not be able to sleep past 6:30 or 7 on the weekends, but these days I have an amazing capacity for sleep. We are on vacation and I am sleeping about 10 hours a night with a nap in the afternoon. Amazing. My wife works varied hours so our morning routine varies depending on who has to be out of the house when.
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age?
I worry a lot about what climate change is doing to the world and what that will mean for my kid(s) when they are adults.
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
We just got back from the grocery store, where we picked up a rotisserie chicken to put on lunch salads, a few sirloin steaks because they were having an amazing sale (dinner tomorrow and at least one going in the freezer), and flounder for dinner tonight. Baby spinach, romaine hearts, asparagus, a cucumber, celery, lemons and limes, mangoes, a grapefruit, some apples, rhubarb, and a few strawberries. Cream cheese and butter for a baking project. Staples: eggs, milk, half and half, a pitcher of iced coffee (for my wife), plain yogurt, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, olives, pickles. Lots and lots of assorted condiments.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
I had an OB appointment on Wednesday and they couldn't get a real read on the hb because SOMEBODY would not stop kicking the Doppler probe. They were able to hear a strong steady heartbeat in the placenta and said, "it's clear someone is alive and well in there," but he was definitely not cooperating.
5. What's up this weekend?
Oh, is it the weekend? I couldn't tell because I'm on vacation.

Yay @Jazibel!! C'mon Owen! Can't wait to see you.
1. What time do you usually go to bed? Get up? What are your nighttime/morning routines?
Gabester's current bedtime is 7:30, so I'm usually back downstairs shortly after that. Then I diddle around for awhile, have a beer, get his stuff ready for the next morning and I'm typically in bed around 9 since he still wakes up overnight a few times. In the morning I'm up by 6 (because he is), shower, get dressed, give him breakfast, give the dog meds, get G ready, all while having coffee, then out the door by 7:20.
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age?
I'm honestly terrified that Gabe is going to be a mass murderer. Now, to be clear, I have had NO indication that he is anything but the sweetest, kindest, happiest little guy. But I feel like these days you just never know. And while I'd like to think that we pay plenty of attention and are not naive to these things, I have a real fear that he will have some mental illness that we just don't see and fail to get him help if/when he needs it. How's THAT for paranoia?
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
Whole milk, full fat yogurt, 2% greek yogurt, maple syrup, pineapple, flax meal, LOTS of condiments, leftovers (some edible, some not), wilted vegetables, and something that's stuck to the third shelf that scares me every time I look at it (or is it looking at me??).
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
Gabe is getting pretty good at his animal noises, you know ... What does a cow say? Mooo. What does a sheep say? Baaaah. Well most of them we have done from this book he loves, called Dear Zoo. Anyway, there's an elephant in that book and we usually don't do a noise for it because I figured that's too hard. But every once in a while I'll use my arm like a trunk and and go "Brrrroooooo." But he's never learned that one. Anyway, when I went to pick him up from daycare one evening this week, one of the teachers came running over to me to tell me that they were talking about animals and had said Elephant (in SPANISH, mind you - he's in Spanish immersion), and sure as $hit my little guy threw his arm up in the air, and let it fall back down, and said "Brrrrooooooo!" They were blown away. So was I. They are sponges, I tell ya ...
5. What's up this weekend?
S has an all-day clinic (again) so it's just me and the boys tomorrow during the day. Somehow I have to figure out a way to grocery shop and cook because we have supper club tomorrow night. Also, we have GOT to get outside. It has rained every day this week, so no outside time for us yet. Sunday I'm hoping we can get his hair cut (so sad, my little guy is really growing up), and I think I have softball practice. Also, I would like to relax a little bit. And clean. That is all, my goals aren't too lofty.
PIP! Anything goes, maybe the inside of your fridge? Your front or back yard? Anything really! GO!
I've been out of memory on my phone for like eons, so I have no new pics to share.
Also, my MIL is hoarding all the ones from Easter on her camera. I need to write to her and get those!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
5. What's up this weekend?
2. Oy, the violence, of course. Also, I'm terrified of raising a kid with 1) a sense of entitlement, or 2) no self worth. Regarding #1, I see a lot of younger folks who don't feel they should have to work hard it have the things they want. If their goal is to drive a BMW, they want it now, rather than paying their dues by driving a car they can really afford, working hard at a job, moving up, and getting raises until they can afford it. Regarding #2, I get really sad when I see young folks try really hard to sexualize themselves, party way too hard, and treat their bodies (and others') with no respect. I
hope, hope, hope Z and I have the tools to avoid those things.
3. Leftovers and the usuals - almond milk, breast milk, tortillas, various condiments, very little fresh veggies at this point in the week, water.
4. My MIL is visiting right now and told me that she found Lucy (one of the cats) sitting in the cast iron skillet that was on the stove (after it had been washed and oiled). Um, okay, Lucy! I totally would have taken a pic before scooting her out had I been home.
5. So, I'm home today. We had a HORRIBLE night last night. We noticed that LO had a rash late yesterday afternoon. Then, he would only sleep if either he had a nipple in his mouth or was being held. So, we all took turns holding him for a few hours. This morning, he wa happy when he woke up, but both eyes were watery and the the red spots were everywhere. Took him to dr (was last there on Wed) and ear is no better. They told us that he has roseola virus - telltale signs are fever (Wed) followed by extreme irritability followed by a rash. Sigh. Plus, his ear is no better. We have moved onto injectable antibiotics and have second injection tomorrow. Cross your fingers this works - we have had 5 straight weeks of infection. If this doesn't work, I'm sure we're headed to ENT to discuss tubes, which I'm actually beginning to embrace. This poor kiddo has been through the ringer. I hate seeing him go through this.
I digress. We're also moving into Phase 1 of our backyard makeover. Then, Z is participating in a small tri on Sunday. I need to shop for an interview outfit this weekend and make time to grocery shop and cook.

Sick baby being cuddly earlier this week
Oy, since being pregnant I am usually passing out by/around 9:30. So we tend to get in bed around 9, and J reads to my belly and then plays music for her for a bit. We both putter on our phones/read a little sometimes otherwise.
Mornings depend, since I can basically work from home as much as I want, on days I stay home I just get up, take a quick bath, make some decaf and breakfast and start my day. When I go in, I take a shower, do my hair, make-up, and then stop at a cafe for coffee and some breakfast. When I'm home I can sleep until 30 minutes before I have to start work (7ish or so) - if I go in, I get up more like 6:15-6:30.
Weekends depend, but I am still usually up by 8, but don't feel any need to rush.
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age?
Information overload, and just thinking about everyone's lives being so obsessed with their screens (mine included, mind you). We're always on our phones, laptop, or tv it seems...and I think when I was a kid I was outside all the time. I suppose parenting can help but at some point they'll be part of the world and with that will come all the info/screens/distractions from just plain old human interaction and physical activity. Of course, all the other stuff you guys mention scare me too - crazy people, my kid turning out crazy, the fact that temperatures may be too hot to be outside for a portion of the year, etc. Yucky stuff.
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
Lots of fresh eggs from our hens (yes, they are still here). Cans of carbonated water, almond milk, coconut water, coconut milk, half'n'half, random assortment of beer and white wines (guests); a zillion condiments (too many!!); pickles, olives; sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, asparagus, mushrooms, some deli food in containers, hot dogs, shredded cheese, snackin' cheese, bacon...and more condiments.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
So yesterday at work my coworker, a burly texan named Chris, and I got into an elevator with three younger dudes. Our kitchen on the 3rd floor is being remodeled, and one guy said "Ug, I guess we'll have to take the stairs down to get stuff from the kitchen." Another one looked at me and said "That'll be good for you with the baby, the exercise and all." Chris turns around - deadpan - and says "She's not pregnant." The youngin' was HORRIFIED and it was hilarious. Of course I let him off the hook, and his pal was like "Dude, I thought that was mighty brave of you." haha!
Once I had a friend say "My mother taught me that you never ask a woman if she is pregnant, or assume so, unless a baby is physically in the process of exiting her body." This young man hadn't gotten that advice apparently.
5. What's up this weekend?
Too much! Tomorrow yoga and lunch after with a friend, then a non-profit thing J wants to go to, then we have tickets to see Stephen Tobolosky live, we love his podcasts and he's just funny. Sunday is technically 'open' but I HAVE to get those hens to their new home, I think we are just both reluctant to see them go. In good news, J said "let's wait to get the dog until after we're settled with the baby." Phew. Otherwise just going to work on clearing a few things out of the nursery so we can start thinking about getting it painted!

2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age?
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week.
5. What's up this weekend?
2. Social media/cyber bullying, bullying in general and creepy/scary/crazy people doing awful things to children.
3. My fridge has milk, yogurt, eggs, lots of salad veggies, and condiments. We need to go shopping. We also have a couple bottles of white wine in the back if the fridge from when we went tasting in the williamette valley just prior to conceiving. I had planned on drinking that if/when we got another bfn. I'm happy to see them still unopened.
4. This has been a rough week which I will detail on Monday with the pregnancy check in but the "funniest" thing is that I just found out today that my (straight) unattached and completely nuts friend is unexpectedly pregnant. I'm baffled and horrified, but I have to laugh I guess. She is thrilled.
5. This weekend holds few plans, which is great. Going out to dinner tonight and that's all I know for sure!
A & K, married 7/1/13.
After 10 months of ttc via medicated IUIs and two early losses, we finally got our boys- Perfect premie twins born 5/27/14.
Typically in bed by 8:30 (kids to go bed at 8pm) and read/watch tv till 10ish. I get up at 6:10 during the week and typically not later than 6:30 on the weekends. I just can't sleep in since having kids...even now that they don't need me to get up with them!
AM Routine:
6:10 - wake up and wake the kids if they aren't already up
6:15-6:40 - Kids watch tv and drink a cup of milk in our bed while I get ready
6:40-6:55 - Prod, poke, nag the kids into clothes, make sure the brushed their teeth/hair/etc.
6:55-7 - Throw lunches into lunchboxes (already prepped in the fridge) and hustle people out the door
7:30 - Drop kids of at before care
8ish - Get to work
2. What scares you most about raising a child in this day and age? The lack of freedom to run around and be kids because of people out there who seek to hurt others.
3. Tell us about what is in your refrigerator right now. It is pretty bare bones since we aren't going to be home all weekend. I did stop on Thursday and get milk, stuff for the kids' lunches next week, fruit, and some breakfast stuff so it isn't completely empty.
4. Tell us a funny anecdote, story or happening from the past week. I'll have to think about this.
5. What's up this weekend? L is doing the 39 mile breast cancer walk this weekend. The kids and I are going to troll around the city and cheer her on all day both days. Thankfully, the weather is supposed to be beautiful!
